I've got a question for you Merc. Guru's.I own a 1978 inline 6 90hp that I rebuilt and it runs like a champ.I am real curious, according to spec's this motor is supposed to run W0T 4500 to 5000 rpm.I have read alot of information on inlines 6's running past the RPM range that Mercury suggests...

    gas out of carbs

Re: gas out of carbs On the 850 carb adjustment 1 1/2 turns out for starters. If your carbs are leaking you either have the needle seats not sealing properly or your float is not adjusted properly. You can spend all day in the driveway trying to get that motor running right and in the end when...

    Plugs fouling with metal

Re: Plugs fouling with metal This is what happens with bad timing and or cooling problems.I would suggest you look at your timing and make sure you gettin enough cooling when running. I hate to say this but damage has already started in your case. Take a compression test to see what she say's.

1968 Mercury 1250ss still runs ROUGH after new top end!

Re: 1968 Mercury 1250ss still runs ROUGH after new top end! I dont think it would be the reeds, after bolting the block and the intake cover back together the reeds are tight there not going anywhere. With the pins/dowls in place they cant move.I would shoot more towards the timing. You could try...

I need a little edjumacation on Mercury engines

Just curious!!! Is there any special reason why Mercury kept the rpms down (4500-5000) on a 78 inline 6 90hp. Most inline 6's all run in the mid 5000 rpm? Seems kinda odd that this is the only model that I am aware of that runs in this rpm range.Hell even my 850 runs in the mid 5000 rpm's well...
