    Odd question about my Merc.

    I have a 1972 Mercury 9.8 HP Model 110. Having trouble getting it running. It will run when its out of the tank no water going through it, but when I start it in the tank, it will start then die and not fire anymore. Is there anyway that the water would affect it? Thanks, D

    72 Merc 9.8 fires up at full throttle but not idle.

    I have a 72 Merc 9.8 HP model 110. It will fire up and run at full throttle when its in forward, but any less throttle it dies and wont fire. Im thinking it is the Low Speed Coil. Any help would be awesome. Also is there an ohm test or some way to test the coils? Thanks in advance. D
