Boat leaking salt water - steering pin?

I watched the marina replace it.. have photos of it installed brand new.. the crazy thing to me is that this is the first time I ever noticed a leak.. all last season there was zero water in the bilge.. we go for a long time here with no rain so when I mean zero I mean NOTHING.

Boat leaking salt water - steering pin?

Yes. This part of one of the above pictures has me the most worried about riding out the season..

Boat leaking salt water - steering pin?

Not 10 years. Motor, transom assembly and out drive were replaced with 100% brand new in 2019 (20k bill). 250 hours running since then. Gotta love Mercruiser quality I guess. It's in a 28 ft boat, it's a 383 stroker fresh water cooled. No expense was spared here.. Multiple mechanics have missed...

Boat leaking salt water - steering pin?

Yeah? Fix it in 6 months when it's out for the summer? I have nightmares of it getting worse while I'm out on the water enjoying a day or something..

Boat leaking salt water - steering pin?

I assume this is all we really have to see. Obviously this has been leaking for a while, I must have just not noticed it? This picture worries me. The weird part is I cant catch it dripping, even leaving a security camera down there. The yellow fluid is crc 656 that I spray all over...

Boat leaking salt water - steering pin?

Thanks posting some more pictures. I'm wondering if I can ride out 6 months and then deal with it. With the leak a the current rate, it might take a month or two for it to even get enough to kick the bilge pump on. I have a dry bilge system that would take 30 seconds a week to pump out anything...

Boat leaking salt water - steering pin?

Fun times. Put the boat in and ran her for a few days with a perfectly dry bilge.. 5 days later she's got water in the bilge and no rain. Have narrowed it down to this location: I believe this is the part under the steering pin.. Going to get back down there and look some more.. this...

    Bravo 3 seacore - U joint replacement?

Thank you. I was thinking of doing it myself because it seemed like it would be hard to find anyone here willing to do the job. Well, a very respected guy around these parts surprised me and took on the job, he works on big diesel boats, but also does jobs on stern drives.. phew. Dropped it off...

    Bravo 3 seacore - U joint replacement?

Mechanic last sping installed the main bellow incorrectly, long story short, water made it in and ruined the gimbal bearing and put the ujoint got rusty. Had to hire a new mechanic to pull the drive off, replace the gimbal bearing and bellow correctly and put it back on. He cleaned up the...

383 FWC - Strong gas smell while idling, lower compression in one cyl. Any thoughts?

Going to start by saying I know I should have addressed this when it was first put in, 5 years ago I didn't realize what was going on. The story is, bought a boat, the motor in it went south the 2nd weekend of ownership. Instead of rebuilding I decided to go with a reman directly from...

Ghost Lube Drive Oil Low alarm...

Hi all, I've been chasing a res. drive oil low alarm around the block a few times... So after cleaning, checking connections, etc etc.. I finally just bought a new bottle, with a new sensors and of course it came all put together. The conclusion I'm at now is that the computer is telling me...

Reman 383 Stroker - Low compression in rear Stbd cylinder

Thank you for all your help here.. I'm trying to take this on as my own now because it seems like everyone is right, no one will take care of this as well as you do. However I will have someone else be doing the actual work. The bummer is this motor has been out two additional times since...

Reman 383 Stroker - Low compression in rear Stbd cylinder

Ok, will do. Thank you for that. Any thoughts on how this possibly could of occurred at the factory level? Or could this be a case of the marina not installing manifolds correctly etc?? As I said, it's been like this from day 1 as far as the unburned fuel smell.

Reman 383 Stroker - Low compression in rear Stbd cylinder

While we're on the trip down memory lane, here is the picture of me trying to remove the oil 1 or 2 days into ownership.
