    165 mercruiser cracked exhaust manifold

    Hi Guys Well much to my dissmay when I started the merc , water started coming out the manifold behind the carb. I pulled the manifold and found a crack . It is accessable. Have any of you people ever got a manifold welded? And if so what kind of luck have you had with it holding?? Dave

    I pulled my 1974 165 merc out to replace the transom on my chieftain. I have never had it running yet , it has been sitting for about 6 yrs out of water. I did a compression test they read 180/145/160/150/60/180. I sprayed the cyls down with bolt loosener. I am hoping that they will even out...

    wood preservative for the transom ?? Is it a good idea?

    I am debating giving the transom on my cheiftain a coat of some sort of preservative. Anyone have any ideas what product would be best for this ? Thompson water seal??? I don't want to use something that could cause corosion.

    Has anyone run smart tabs on any of the bigger starcrafts? I have a chieftain Mk4 24 ft. I am just getting it ready for the water and would like to know if smart tabs would be a worth while investment right off the get go.

    I weent to the local starcraft dealer on the weekend. He told me that 2010 is the last year of the islander. There was one in the showroom ,outboard model . About $40,000 . That made me think sinking a bit of cash into mky old chieftain was not a bad idea. Its sad to see the islander go the way...
