    For any future readers: Upon further reading on my welding failure for those reading this in the future, it seems the bolt is stainless (3/8 - 16 x 1 inch) and my flux core welding setup did not have appropriate wire to bond to the stainless.

    Huh, yeah you'd think they'd give you a hose barb or something on the dang valve cover. It's even tapered to assist blowing off. Not a great design, bad even. Looks like the earlier models have something like that, but I also need the fitting that anchors the throttle cable for the a Mercarb.
