I have about 35gals of 3 year fuel in my tank. I'm in South FL (West Palm Beach area). Anyone know if there's a service that will come pump it out or a place I can take the boat to get this done? Also would like to get the tank cleaned. Taking the tank out isn't an option as it would require...
Re: Upholstery advice
here are some pics of the captain's seat. The back is made out of what appears to be white lexan and attached to the fram with the plastic clips commonly found on car door panels. Doesn't appear to be too dificult. I'll start making some patterns out of cardboard this...
The vinyl on my seats of my 1999 Maxum 2800SCR are beginning to show thier age and I'm thinking that I'd like to tackle it myself. First step is to get a sewing machine that will be up to the task. I've been looking on Craig's list and Ebay and I've narrowed down to two machines.
1. Singer...
This is my first engine rebuild so forgive me if I seem to be asking rookie questions. Can someone please confirm that I'm measuring my piston clearance correctly?
Measure skirt of cylinder with micrometer
zero bore gauge to the mirometer
use bore gauge to determine difference between piston...
I'm rebuilding my 1999 7.4L MPI and noticed that the two braided fuel lines from the pump to the water seperator has a kink in it. I can squeeze the kinked area at the creases and get them out however I can feel where it bends very easily there. Two questions.
Should these be replaced?
If...
I'm rebuilding my Merc 7.4L MPI Gen VI engine. In the service manual there are references to Service and Production specs (cylinder bore, taper, etc). What's the difference and which one should I go by?
How can I tell if the fuel in my tank is bad and shouldn't be used? What should I look for? The gas is about 3 years old (about 25gals). I've treated it with Seafoam. Thanks.
Hi guys. Well I've got all the bottom paint removed and working on some minor repairs. Based on the picture of the boat in the water it looks like the old line wasn't high enough at the stern and too high at the bow. Should I establish a new waterline based on the photo? If so any tips on...
I have a 1999 Merc 7.4L MPI. I'd like to replace the spacer and mount from the flywheel housing rear engine mounts. I tried a hammer and wooden dowel however they won't budge. Anyone know how to remove these? Thanks.
In one of the hurricanes a few years back the starboard side of the bow rail got pushed up (see pic). Any suggestions to fix this? Can I just bend it back?
I've started to remove the bottom paint on my 1999 Maxum 2800SCR. I started out with Aquastrip which works ok however due to the many layers of paint requires two applications, is very messy and expensive. My neighbor did his Trophy last year and said he used a 4000psi pressure washer with a...
I'm removing and repainting the bottom of my boat and was wondering if I should remove the seawater thru hull valves? They are 12 years old. I've never had any issues with them. Is there something I should do to maintain them or is there a set interval to just replace them?
Hi guys. I had my 1999 Mercruiser 7.4L MPI engine overhauled and want to know how to go about testing it before I put it back in the boat. I know how to hook up the water for cooling but not sure about gas and ignition. Also anything I should pay close attention to? Thanks.
I have the engine, drive, and transom assembly removed. While prepping the bilge for paint I notice some fiberglass flaking around the bottom and sides of the hole in the transom where the drive goes. Upon further inspection I discovered that the fiberglass has started to delaminate round the...
