I've been looking around for info, but everyone seems to want to go from short shaft to long shaft..
I saw a post on here about a Mercury 800, it has the same midsection, different gears (to warrant a prop change), and a few slightly different components elsewhere.
Is there other...
Re: How to validate the condition of the wood inside the transom
So I took more pics and measured, marked on pic. From the oem clamp, where it would sit on the transom is 20" counting the big thick bracket 22" to main antivent plate right above prop. Where it sits on the transom now to what it...
Re: How to validate the condition of the wood inside the transom
So bottom of the transom clamp get bolted to the cmc unit, and the lower shock mount where the OEM PTT was, macguyver that to attach to the cmc unit as well. I circled both.. that about sums it up? I guess I'll have to goto...
Re: How to validate the condition of the wood inside the transom
So you're saying just put something here?
Sorry I'm unsure if what I have circled is the lower shock mount or it's where the bottom of the oem PTT attaches to.
I'm just wanting to be sure I'm understanding this all correctly so...
Re: How to validate the condition of the wood inside the transom
This is what OEM would have looked like? Apologies, this is the first picture I've come across that isn't a CMC bracket lol..
Would it be worth finding cylinders and a motor to restore the original PTT? Since I've thought about...
Re: How to validate the condition of the wood inside the transom
You're saying to do this Chris? Do I not need to attach the angle iron to the cmc plate? (or I need to flip it in this picture)
What do you mean by thumbscrews? The main 4 bolts from the motor to the cmc and upper adapter plate...
Re: How to validate the condition of the wood inside the transom
Gonna do measurements here in a sec, after looking closer I see the top second plate is bolted to the cmc, I guess it's a top adapter plate of some sort
Re: How to validate the condition of the wood inside the transom
Thanks guys, I'll have to pop the cap on the transom and drill a few holes as I'll have to take the motor off to get bolts into the top mount points..
Here's what I'm talking about though, the top 2 and bottom 2 bolt holes are...
I've tried searching, but there's a ton of people asking, "Can I put a metal plate on my transom?"
What I mean, is, if I'm going to take the time to properly restore my boat to what I consider satisfactory condition for long term~
If I pop the boat open, and replace the transom, has anyone...
I was looking through pictures of my boat, and came across a 1983 (mine is 86) venture bass boat that had a transom torn apart and the wood core was in pretty bad shape...
I know my motor has moved a bit forwards and backwards, but of the 8 mounting bolts, the top 2 and bottom 2 are absent, so...
Luckily it was just above idle speed... I was watching the shoreline.. :(
It did jolt me though and my hand moved the throttle, prop hit rocks, I came back to idle but it died..
When I first restarted it, it didn't want to idle. :|
But I got it off of it and got it into gear and it went.. I...
