Ok first off, this is a mid-size Mercury 40HP 2 stroke.
The past couple times out I've noticed a faint rattle or ringing of my motor at idle. It immediately stops when I put the motor in gear and doesn't recur until I'm back in idle.
I've narrowed it down to the lower unit and noticed there's...
Hey group! I've searched for similar topics on here, but can't find anything I can go off of.
So - I have a 2003 Mercury 40HP 2 stroke. Fires up and idles fine - aside from a loud scream from something. No idea what that is - maybe the starter? not sure.
Anyway - I idle great, move along...
I need to replace my prop on my 2003 40HP ELPTO Mercury... So I go online and see a dozen different props ranging from 7 pitch to 17...
How the heck do I know what pitch prop to get?!?
It's for a Tracker 175 PT 17 foot aluminum...
I'm confused!
I'm looking to upgrade the fish finders on my tracker... I have $600 to spend and would like to upgrade my console-mount FF as well as my bow mount...
Can anybody make some suggestions? There are sooo many out there I'm confused every time I start looking!
I prefer to get FF/GPS that are...
I have a 40 HP 2003 oil injected 2 stroke... It starts right up every time, runs strong but has a knock to it...
Is there anyway I can tell if the oil is being injected correctly? The oil tank is up in the motor, but I can't tell if it's actually injecting...
Any other ideas I can check...
I have an early 80's Mariner 9.9 Outboard... It runs really well, but I would like to move just a little bit faster when cruising in my 14ft jon... I run a lot of 10hp restricted lakes so I can't increase my HP...
Will changing the prop do anything to increase my max speed?
Can I do anything...
I just had my fuel pump replaced for my Mariner 1989 Mercury 9.9 motor (serial #OB388303)...
I got it back and I started running it... It runs really well when I give it gas, but when I take it back to idle - it just dies... Do I need to increase the fuel flow when idling? How do I do this...
My 9.9 outboard has a problem staying running... When I prime the motor, it starts right up.... Then dies out after 5-10 seconds or so...

This used to happen with my lawnmower when I was a kid... I used the adjustment on the carb to fix this type of problem...

Is there...
I am having trouble starting my 9.9 mariner... Sometimes it starts on the first pull with the choke on and then dies... If I try to start it again, it's useless - I can't get it started at all...

I Just replaced the sitch box (wasn't getting spark in the 2nd cyl) and it started up...
I have a small 9.9 Mariner outboard - 1989... It hasn't been run in 6 years... I am going to change the impeller with a mercury impeller kit with all the gaskets and stuff...

Is this a tough job? Or is it pretty basic? Any tips? suggestions?!?

Thanks!
I have a 1986 Mercury 9.9 outboard. I don't have the owner's manual and I don't know much about this engine. I have heard people say that this should be a 25:1 mix and others are saying 50:1 mix... I cna't find a definitive answer...

I ran it yesterday with a 50:1 mix and it smoked...
