My entire fuel system is new, including tank to carb without backflow (not needed with electric). When I am next on the water I am going to see how it does from idle to WOT out of the hole (I rarely do this-I am either at speed and go WOT or pulling a skier up and that is nowhere near WOT)

Thanks @Scott06. That helps to know that. I have been reading up and pretty much across the board I see that the 600 CFM is what is needed for marine applications; either Edelbrock or Holley.
Pretty sure it is not ignition, it is not a misfire since that would be more of a stumble. I have not looked at the plugs but can pull one to see. What I have is like not enough fuel so I like the suggestion to look at the secondary jets. Never heard of step up rods so will read up. Thanks
1976 American Eagle (American Boat Company) with 351W; new Edelbrock 1406 600 CFM 4-Barrel Carburetor, Edelbrock Performer intake (older version), Edelbrock 1791 Electric Fuel Pump and Edelbrock Max-Fire Distributor. New ½ inch fuel hose from new vented tank to remote spin-on fuel filter/water...
OK so if I do replace the lower case I will still have the 1.50....good.
Thanks, pitch is clearly on the side on my other boat so did not look under nut. It is a Michigan Wheel 14.5x17.
I don't know the pitch and can't find it marked on the prop.
Tach and all wiring is new so I trust it to be pretty close.
Where is the ratio set in the drive? at the top bevel gears or the lower? My lower unit is in rough shape and I have a line on a replacement but the sell know nothing about it.
Boat is a 1976 American Boat Company Eagle. HIN says it was delivered with a 351W-233 Mercruiser. At 47 years old the motor and drive have for sure been removed and/or changed.
It now has an aftermarket Edlebrock intake manifold that is stamped Performer 351W, I have installed a new Edlebrock...
All right! Thanks for the extra eyes. I am going to go set the motor to TDC based on the crank pulley and pointer, check that the distributor to pointing to #1 and then order the wires to 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 again and see if she'll start.
