The skeg on my 1980 85 hp Johnson is bent about 10 to 15 degrees off center. Some say it must be fixed and some say don't give it a second thought. What is the real answer?
A guy near me has a boat with a 1973 90 hp Chrysler motor on it. He says it runs good. How are Chrysler outboards. You don't see them very often and I was wondering if it was worth the investment.

For johnson and evinrude outboards, the difference between a 9.9 and 15hp is just the carb, everything else is the same so I am told. Is this the case for mercury also? If I want to make my merc 9.9 a 15hp, can I just get a 15hp carb and put it on? Thanks in advance.

I picked up a 1978 9.9 evinrude. I started it up in a garbage bucket, started on 4 th pull after sitting all winter. Water comes out the pee hole fine, but little to none out the exhaust relief. There is air (exhaust) coming out. I did shift to forward and reverse but only for a few seconds. I...
I changed the oil in the lower unit and when I tightened the upper plug I gave it one last turn ( one too many) I stripped the threads on the lower unit ( not the plug threads, that would be too easy of a fix ) Has anyone had this problem and what did you do ? Thanks.
