Hi All, I have not started the motor for over a year... I have the boat up for slae, it's all clean and in nice shape...but it won't start!

The lower half (only) of the wood board behind the transom is rotten. I want to cut it out and replace it with new marine wood. I can not use secast in this case , since the wood is not encased in fiberglass/aluminum ? it is open one side. Before I get working, I could use any advice you have...

I have a Johnson 88, I think the specs say 4800 - 5500, and recommend a 17" prop, 13 3/4.
Is there any way to know if the impeller on my outboard is in good shape and enough watre is circulating thru the egine to cool it down, without taking the power head off and doing all the work? I have just installed this ebay purchased second hand Johnson 88 SPL, took it on the lake yesterday...
I just installed Johnson 88 outboard and want to test it. I will put the motor in a bucket with water...which one is the water intake... how far up must it be submerged in water before i can safely start it. I could use some prompt advise... thanks Chris 716667740

Are these two motors identical? I have a 1990 model on my boat, but the powerhead is burnt and it is not worth fixing. I have an opportunity to buy a Johnson 88 SPL from 1987. My qeuetsion is, are these twomotor identical, same power head, same... can I mix and match parts between the two?
