I'm doing my Bellows. Mercruiser A1G1. Are the Amazon Bellows Kits any good?

I didnt have any issues with the FITMENT on the set I got, it was the longevity...within a couple of months, they were showing signs of cracking, and within a year, I was replacing them because they were torn.... they fit good, they looked good, they felt good, they just didnt last for diddly....

    99 Volvo 5.0GL

It’s a 99 Volvo, were they using Chevy motors that year or still Ford? They would have inherited Ford engines with the Cobra/SX drive around 1995-1996 ok, looks like the 5.0 Ford engine was all done by 1997... my bad, yeah, there is nothing in the area on a SBC that would cause issues, unless...

Check any and all connectors in the area. The distributor is right in that area so is a prime suspect.

yep, nothing with either of the water pumps that would affect timing. You may have some water in the fuel, or you may have knocked something loose that is causing the issue. Start with an inspection of the area where you were working, and move on from there.

Mercruiser Exhaust Tube vs Exhaust Bellows Opinions, and Part # for Tube.

the 4 cyl through a tube doesnt sound too bad... its not like a Honda with a FartCan on it, but its no V-8 burble either.... :D

    Mystery bolt found in bilge

yep, that bolt is smoked..... definitely stretched just below the head.... likely someone just tossed it carelessly into the bilge and got a new one.... its a fairly small bolt, so likely off the accessory drive somewhere.... could be alternator, power steering or the engine driven water...

Any reason I couldn't run the engine without the drive attached?

back when I was rebuilding me Galaxy, I stuck a hose end on the long side of the water hose to the transom (before I hooked it to the through hull) and screwed the hose directly to the garden hose... the engine doesnt care whether it gets its water from the lake, hose, or what have you... it...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

At least it’s an easy fix. If it was part of an Amazon kit, chances are it was “bad” right out of the box.

Mercruiser Exhaust Tube vs Exhaust Bellows Opinions, and Part # for Tube.

the exhaust bellows is no fun to replace on a Merc drive... The tube is no louder nor more "messy" than a slightly torn/weatherbeaten exhaust bellows... once its in the water, it doesnt make a whole lot of difference once underway... at the dock, its slightly louder...

I'm doing my Bellows. Mercruiser A1G1. Are the Amazon Bellows Kits any good?

the off-brand chinesium bellows kits are a crapshoot.... I put one in, and it lasted about a year and a half.... OEM will last usually 3-4x that. Sure you should be inspecting every year, but they arent cheap enough nor fun enough to do more than you have to.... and having one go out mid season...

    Volvo Penta 4.3

I posted some screenshots of the electric fuel pump schematic in another 4.3 fuel issues thread here about a week ago (it’s further down in this page). Check for power according to that, or if that isnt the issue, it may be ignition. Sometimes there is a separate power feed for “run” vs “crank”...

Help identify this Volvo Penta drive:

Ive got no complaints with my Cobra drive. Mine is the late one same as the Volvo... seems they learned most of the lessons from Mercruiser, and made them "easier" to work on (no pump in the lower unit, bellows easier to change, shifter not a disaster to adjust). Cone clutches also, so they are...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

if you have a cheap chinesium bearing in there, that could well be the cause of the issue... the bellows and bearings in those kits are not the best... I use them when resurrecting a boat, as they will keep water out until the hull and driveline is proven, but beyond that, if you get a year or...

I wouldnt say its completely off the wall, and at least its easy to check. Pulling the drive is quick and painless, and will tell you in 20 minutes if you have an easy fix, of if something inside the drive went, or is going belly up.
