1949 Mercury KF-5 " Super 5" Outboard- 2 plugs per cylinder, tool in handle!

1949 Mercury KF-5 " Super 5" Outboard- 2 plugs per cylinder, tool in handle! I picked up this Mercury motor and looked up the serial number in Peter Hunn's Old Outboard Book. Found it to be a KF-5, and one of the first couple hundred that were produced in its inaugural year of 1949. There were...

Coast Guard Ratings Plate- Canadian v. US; Inconsistencies.

http://grandisland.craigslist.org/boa/2596281907.html This CL ad is for a 16' Lund, not a deep v- and advertises with a 70hp motor. I emailed the seller who confirmed that the coast guard plate says that it allows 70hp. My boat is a 1995 18' Lund SV, a much larger boat than this one, and it has...

    Butterfly Valve on Carburetor

So the butterfly valve on my carburetor won't close all the way. It gets pretty close, but I'd imagine that I could idle a bit smoother if it would close all the way. Have any advice? This carburetor is off of a 2000 Mercury Mariner 40hp 2 Cycle 2 Cylinder motor.

2000 40Hp Mariner 2 Cycle- Runs then dies

Just bought this motor. It has brand new plugs. He started it up first pull when I looked at it, ran strong, and didn't die. So I take it out to the lake on my boat and have a tough time starting it. After about 5-6 pulls I get it to start, it ran for about 15-20 seconds, then lost RPM's and...

    Thermostat necessary?

My 1960 5.5. Evinrude is missing the thermostat. Is it necessary? If the older 5.5's and the 3hp's weren't even made with them, isn't it just one more thing to worry about considering running too cool is always better than warped?

1947 Goodyear 2G2 by Gale Ignition- How does it work?

What should I check when inspecting the ignition components? I have tons of parts for the later 50's and 60's OMC ignition but it appears that maybe only the condensor is the same. The coil faces in instead of out and the points do not move when i rotate the shaft. Everything looks to be in...
