    Pulling Engines and Gantry Built

I'm in the same camp. Making up what you need for possibly only occasional use, will usually pay for itself after it's first use. Plus you can "swap and share" amongst other in your boating community. And then there's the personal satisfaction. We'll done.

    Seized outdrive

Don't know where you're based, but "Coastal Rides" in the UK are a good place to start.

    Seized outdrive

I bought a boat with a seized outdrive. The previous owner took it out at the end of season and parked it up without checking it over. Oil seals had gone, oil out, sea water in. Left sitting for several months and the damage was done. It was totally seized solid. I removed it and split it down...

    new transom cutout alpha one

I used a small angle grinder, fitted with a flap disc. Cut out the bevel with the steering in situ. Just temporarily bolted up the outer transom assembly so I could be sure the steering yoke was operating fully, with sufficient clearance.

    Inboard Store.

Wondering if anybody has heard of, or had any dealings with the above. They seem to offer what appears to be very competitively priced outdrives, but I'm just a natural sceptic in some regards. They are based in Indonesia. Any thoughts most welcome.

    Inner transom plate curved?

Ever since I took the inner transom plate off during the strip down as part of my transom replacement, I had the suspicion that the plate was curved. It just looked a bit "off". I didn't investigate it too much as I was sufficiently distracted replacing the transom, stringers and engine mounts...

    Engine jobs

Hi all. As I'm approaching the end of my transom/stringers/engine mounts restoration, the time is getting close to dropping the engine back in. Before doing so,I want to take advantage of the fact that the engine is on a pallet and give it a "once over" while it's fully accessible. Apart from...

    Nuts and bolts.

Does anyone know where to source the various nuts and bolts that are used to fix the inner /outer transom plates on an alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive? I'll be replacing mine soon after my transom and stringer replacements. I can identify the ones I need, just looking for a source. Thanks.

    Building hardtop

As part of the refurb on my Wellcraft Sportsman, I made up a DIY folding bimini, but preferred the option of a permanent hard top. I worked out the sort of headroom that I'd need and so, could roughly figure out the height that such a hard top would add to my boat. I'm thinking if I did go this...

    Ask me how I know............

I'm sure that many of us, like myself, discover tricks and short cuts, often by accident, or by trial and error, as we go about our various restorations and repairs. To that end, I thought it might be an idea to create a thread containing our various tips and learned lessons, possibly to help...

    Water getting in.........

I'm away from tomorrow working for the next nine days, but I'm happy with where I got to today. The starboard stringer is fitted and tabbed in and just waiting for the full glassing, like the port side, thanks to the lovely weather we've had over the last few days. The glass for both stringers...

    Water getting in.........

So I got the port stringer tabbed in along with the short section at the transom end. It's wedged in place while it sets up and will be ready for glassing tomorrow, although the weather forecast says otherwise. Almost ready to start repeating the process on the starboard side, but at least I...

    Water getting in.........

Got home yesterday and today I got my stringers cut out and did a dry fit on the port side. All good so far, including the angle for the transom and the angle cut along the bottom edges to sit snug to the angle in the hull. I also included the cut out for drainage, fitted with a piece of pipe as...

    Water getting in.........

Thankfully the weather has started to improve and I got a bit done today. But after tomorrow, I'm on the road again, just as we've gotten a forecast for dry sunny weather. Hey ho, it's how it is. Today I got the short stringer sections cut, which took a bit of fettling. I made a cardboard...
