I'm getting new moeller permanent fuel tank. I read that they will swell 2-3% on all sides. My question is, can I fill it with gas before I install it. Let it swell then empty all the gas out. Because, once installed under my deck I won't be able to readjust the hold downs.
Thanks,
Tom
Gunwale question
When I noticed soft stops on my deck I knew it was all rotton. So I removed it and found all the foam was waterlogged. I cut as much as I was comfortable without going through the hull. Removed the old deck and foam.
I thought the manufactor just tabbed the deck to the...
On my gas tank the nut that secures the pick up port broke in three places. I've been looking all over for a replacement with no luck. It looks like a 13/16 flat jam nut. If I'm unable to find a replacement, could I use RTV?
Thank,
Tom
I am replacing my fuel pick up and fuel lines. The only pick up I found is by Moeller and its 3/8 inch tube and 1/4 NPT. So if I upgrade my fuel line from 5/16 to 3/8, I won't see a difference because of the 1/4 fitting.
Thanks,
Tom
I have a question about the differace in polyester resin. I saw an online vendor selling 404 tooling resin for around $40 per gallon. The problem with an online purchase is shipping charge and haz-mat fee. I also found at Home Depot poly resin made by Bondo for a lot cheaper. The base cost...
I'm consideing a new gas tank for extra capacity. A coworker asked if I'm selling my old one? If I would how much could I get for it? Sorry that two of the pics are upside down, but you get the point.
Thanks,
Tom
I still have the original glass for the boats windshield, but it's very heavy. My thought is to buy replacement polycarbonate sheets. Polycarbonate is very strong and you can add a scratch resistance film for it. I'm trying to reduce weight where I can to accommodate a bigger fuel tank. I'm...
Hello all,
In preparing for the bedding of the stringers, It was suggested to me to use PL. So I went to my local hardware store to get some. To my surprise there are about a dozen types. Anything from bathtub surround, to concrete crack repair, to extreme. What do you all recommend? Any how...
Hello all,
Somehow I lost a nut to the top stainless bolt that holds tke motor to the boat. I need to buy another one but what kind. The one I didn't lose looks like it's made of bronze. If i buy a grade 8 or SS nut it may gall. So what do you all suggest?
Thanks,
Tom
I pulled off my motor without an engine hoist. But I can't seem to lift it onto the stand I built. A couple of guy and myself couldn't bulge the 300 pound behemoth off the ground. So I'm renting an engine hoist. I seen a couple of videos when the engine was lifted by a loop with 3 screws that...
To remove or to not remove the motor. I hand a 330 pound 150 hp motor hanging off the transom only being supported by a transom saver. Here's a pic of my internal transom braces and support stringers. If I cut away more flooring, it may weakling the transom stability. Right? Or am I just...
Hello, I'm currently trying to remove all the foam since it is waterlogged. With a putty knife and a crow bar it's coming out slowly in small chunks. I wish there was some kind of chemical to dissolve the foam but not harm the fiberglass bottom. To me the stingers look to be in good shade...
I have an 18 ft fish/ski fiberglass boat with a pretty low transom. I would like to take her out in the northern part of the Chesapeake. I'm just worried about swamping. I have noticed that when i slow down after running wot and the water catches up to me, my splash well fills up. Here are...
Helo,
In addition to adding a second bilge pump I have enough room under my rear seat for a second fuel tank. This will give me an additional 19 gallons. How would I wire two tanks up to read off one gauge, if possible. I have a manual fuel valve for switching from tank to tank I used earlier...
I have a 25 years old open bow 18 foot v bottom ski boat. Because of the age I am replacing the fuel tank and bilge pump. I read that main bilge should be automatic around 750 gpm. And add a manual switch pump about six inches higher of 1000+ gpm in case of swamping. My question is: do I run...
