I have a 1997 Glastron SE 195 w/Penta 4.3 GL and SX Outdrive. My tach reads many thousands of RPM's higher than actual as measured by a photo tachometer. Engine RPM's from idle to WOT are nominal based on the photo tach measurements...
Not sure if this helps but I once replaced my impeller with a non OEM version and it was about 1/16th off in height (barely noticeable). As such, it would not create negative pressure to move water into the motor. Replaced with an OEM part and it was fixed!
