Back story
Motor sat in the Texas heat untouched and at full tilt for 3 yrs. I drained all the fuel from the VST and pushed new fuel though both LP FP's until I had fresh Ethanol free fuel flowing from the VST drain. Tried to start found the HP FP was not working. Checked power blah blah blah...
So broke the brass fitting that comes off the top of the exhaust cover and feeds the fuel cooler and then the tell tale on the bottom of the cowl. It not listed as a part number so I assume its pressed into the cover. Anyone know if you can replace these or do you you have to replace the cover...
Ok pretty sure I got this figured out but wanted to ask before I pick up a new fuel pump.
First yes I know I'm an idiot. I operated this motor without a fuel demand valve on a new EPA compliant portable 12 gal tank. I installed one and then took it off during the rig up because I thought I was...
So I got 2 manuals and they are both part number 90-830234R04 Released May 2003. But one is white and the other is black. Is there a difference? I think the white one may be preliminary but it doesn't say that anywhere. Seems the only difference i can find is the color.

Any thoughts on whats wrong are appreciated.
So finally got this thing on the lake and had hell getting it to start, idle and accelerate. Don't really understand why I could not get it to start and idle as I did all of the initial setting...
Thought I should ask this outside of my other post. Been looking for what size and type of hose to use on the oil injection side of the motor. I can find part numbers for each piece but it does not tell me what the ID of the hose is. Would like to pick like 4 ft of this stuff up from a local...
So new to me motor. Guy said it needed the carbs cleaned to run well. I planned on doing that and new impeller any way so I opted not to try and start it just did a compression test and got 120-120-120. He said it started running rough and he found out that since it has oil injection you don't...
I just picked up a 2003 90 HP and I have a commander 3000 top mount control with 600a cables. Everything I read says I I need gen 2 cables for this motor. My question is what is the difference? From what i can tell the motor connections are the same. Its the control side that look different.
Found this motor on CL for $2000. Bought and sold a lot of boats and motors so I know the basics but never looked at a Merc or anything with oil injection. I am wanting a 4 stroke or oil injected motor to cut down on the smoke when idling and trolling. The boat is a 1971 18 ft Starcraft. Im...
I'm looking at a used 4 stroke at a dealer. Don't know much about the Johnson 4 strokes except they where made by Suzuki. It comes with controls and gauges. 2900.00 What should I be looking out for? What are the red flags? I plan on hanging this on my 1971 18ft Starcraft Startrek V when I get...
I found a cure to my 2footitus with a 18ft 1971 Startrek but its way under powered. Came with a 50hp merc on the back but its rated for a 125. I have come across an oil injected 1988 100hP merc but it weighs 340lbs. Would I be off my rocker to install something that heavy on the back of this...
I just got a 71 Starcraft Startrek V and it came with what I think is a mid 80’s merc. It’s serial number is A100815. I have never had an old merc like this so I’m trying to find some info on it. The serial number doesn’t seem to be listed anywhere I have looked on the interwebs. I checked the...
I did it. I crossed over to the Dark side so long noisy, smokey, problematic OMC you are releaved. Hello sexy new Mercury. I got her mounted and rigged with new everything. I have come across a few quesitons I wanted to ask the Mercury masters before I take it to the dealer. This being my...
What size battery do i need for my new motor? Its only going to start the motor and run the nav lights. Maybe a depth finder
Owners manual doesnt say anything about the size of the battery
Does the splash well on a 1973 Super Sport 16 just there to catch water or is it a means of support for the transom? I was thinking of reducing its foot print to gain some room in the back.
