'85 OMC Stringer won't raise on it's own

Thank you Kenny, will go out in awhile and try those bolts and add some grease. Speaking of that, I have had several things that get jammed up from old grease like this, wonder if PB blaster would work or help free things up if they were to make a version of the penetrating oil in a grease gun...

'85 OMC Stringer won't raise on it's own

I have searched a lot for this already but had no luck, can someone either help me step by step on how to add grease to the tilt clutch instead of oil...and how to grease the tube (can't recall if it has a proper name) that it pivots on or post a link to a video or two. I swear I had watched one...

'85 Stringer motor raises under load

Totally new to stern drives and to this boat. Just now figured out that my trim button is supposed to actually raise the engine off the mounts and that's how it's designed..this may be a good thing or a bad thing for what I am going to ask next...lol Last weekend I took it out for test run and...

I am hoping you all can tell me what is going on with this 200 Evinrude I have as I have had such mixed responses from my sale listing I don't know what to think anymore...lol Had one person email and tell me it's definitely a 1976-1978 based on the ignition system...he was a marine...

He said - She said on acceptable compression results - is it in the manual or?

After researching what may be a good compression result on an older Evinrude I am left with more questions. 1. Do some years of outboards actually come from factory with lower compression then other years? With same HP that is. 2. Does the acceptable PSI depend greatly on the brand and model...

Re: Need help with stuck lower unit extension - water tube stuck - mid 80's 9.9 or 15 3. Extension fell right down like it should have. 4. Used fuel line and hose clamps to make up the couple of inches of water tube I had to cut off. Note: At the time of writing this I have not put the...

Re: Need help with stuck lower unit extension - water tube stuck - mid 80's 9.9 or 15 I have gotten this thing off now and thought I should post some photos in case others find this thread who are suffering the same issue. Need help with stuck lower unit extension - water tube stuck - mid 80's 9.9 or 15 HP

Two days ago I decided to change the impeller on my trolling motor but couldn't get the extension off so had a very hard time getting access to the shift linkage bolt. Took boat out and noticed no water coming from tale tale...figured smashed grommet or misaligned water tube so back at it I...

Adding a larger than spec motor only because I have it - not to go faster - questions

I currently have two boats that I am working on and now two decent running motors both with matching kickers. First boat is a 1960 Glasspar Cuddy Cabin (Seafair Sedan) currently with no motor...It came to me with a 1970's Merc 150 (Tower of Power) which I sold. Second boat is a 1975 18 foot...

I need to know weight difference- 120 vs 200 around the same year

I currently have two running outboards both with matching 15 HP kickers..and I need to figure out which one to keep and which one to sell. My boat is an old Fiberglass Glasspar Seafair Sedan (18 feet) so it really comes down to weight. If the new motor (the 200) is close to the same weight as...

Top of regulator assembly - should it spark and have current on unit itself?

I was out late tonight making sure all my connections were good and trying some more tests on my 1987 Johnson 120 to see why there is no spark. While out there I decided to clean up a little of the rust / corrosion that is on top of the regulator / rectifier assembly. I used a small wire wheel...
