I picked up a new power pack but when I went to install it I found the problem. One of the connectors must not have had a good connection and burned up. I cut out the connector and soldered the wires together and have spark now.
Last time out I had cylinders dropping out at an idle but would kick in when I throttled up a little. I figured it was plugs fouling do to running double oil because of rebuild. I changed the plugs and I have no spark on one bank of cylinders. I’m thinking it’s the power pack on that side but...
Update, I found I have a bad ground on one of the power packs. I traced the black and yellow back to the big red connector and it is bad leaving that connector. Looking at the diagram it appears both black and yellow leaving the connector share a pin in the connector. I’m guessing the problem...
When I shut the motor off one bank 3 cylinders continue to fire and the engine won’t shut off. It did this last year but was fixed when I replaced the power pack. I have a wiring diagram and will be doing some testing today. My plan is to test for continuity to ground at the power packs when...
I don’t know the model number of the 185 but will ask to verify the year. My 175 model number is J175txcd. You are correct the bore size of my 175 is 3.625. I just did a complete rebuild just before winter. I figure with a motor this old a parts motor may not be a bad idea.
I have a 175 HP the same year and was thinking of picking up a 185HP with bad compression for spare parts. They are asking $450 for it but I was wondering what the difference is between the two motors if anyone knows. The lower unit is probably worth that if it’s working. It looks identical...
I just had the same issue and I replaced the flywheel for peace of mind. It didn’t fix my timing issue but that’s going to be another thread after I check a few other things.
Update. I indexed the flywheel and discovered every cylinder was firing late. With a little heat I was able to move the magnet and got it close enough to fire it up and it sounded great. I decided to remove it and epoxy it and found it isn’t a solid magnet and it crumbled when I removed it. I...
Sorry I meant constant and constant. I couldn’t figure out how to edit it. I was down with corona for a while and will be back trying to figure this out tomorrow.
This is the only diagram I could find.
would the 1988 - 92 crossflow be the same? I tried to move the magnet I wrapped it in leather and used a big pair of vice grips and it doesn’t move. I find it hard to believe it moved on its own. I have been searching the internet for a picture of my...
I reattached the magnets and I still have a problem. I am getting a backfire out of the exhaust. I’m thinking the trigger magnet moved a little and is causing the problem. I will attach some pics if anyone can give their advice. If this is the problem can it be fixed or do I replace the flywheel?
I wouldn't buy pistons from eBay. I ordered what was supposed to be six .20 over Weisco pistons a few months ago and received a no name set that were .30 over and looked used and it took forever to get them. They were cheap but unusable. You could get lucky and receive what you order if you...
