Another question for 1983, 9.9

The adjustable bar that the engine tilt rides on when lowered was replaced by the previous owner with a thredded bolt. It was so rusted and tight that I couldn't budge it even with heat and a large punch. I ended cutting it off and grinding it down so that I can put in a new bar. He had it on...

    1983-9.9 Johnson, two ?'s

I've got a 1983, 9.9 Johnson outboard. Can anyone tell me what the correct gap would be for the sparkplugs? Also, the push to stop button does not work. I have to choke the motor to stop it from running. Should I replace the stop button, or is there any way to fix the problem? Nightstalker

    Trailer needs help

I bought a trailer that is structurally sound but needs to have the roller and bunk brackets replaced. The nuts and bolts holding them look like they came from the Titanic. They are fused together and the metal is all flaked. Nuts are so bad, that you can't even get a wrench on them. Should I...

    1997 90 HP Mercury-Good engine or bad?

I'm looking at a 17' Key West CC with a 1997, 3 cylinder, carburated, Mercury outboard. Nothing on the cowling except Mercury, 90 HP. I don't see any other designations. Does anyone know anything about this engine? I don't think it's an Optibomb, but then again, this engine is foreign to me...

Charging trolling motor battery in high & dry?

If you keep your rig in a paid high and dry, do you have to remove your trolling battery to recharge it everytime it needs a boost? Charging it from the outboard's charging system would take too long wouldn't it? Do any high and drys let you use an onboard charger? If not, any suggestions...

    Extending trolling motor wire.

I have a Minn Kota 30 Endura that I need to lengthen the battery wire on. The owner's manual says to use 6 gauge wire to extend the length. The present wire on the motor is about 8 gauge. Is there a reason they want you to use a larger gauge wire when extending the length? <br...

What was the first outboard you owned?

I thought it might be interesting to know what was the first outboard owned by members on the forum. Mine, believe it or not, was a 1947 (I think) 2 1/2 horse National Pressure Cooker. I had it on a 12 foot wooden row boat.
Stalker

    MK Endura (Battery Gauge Included)?

I was looking at a Minn Kota Endura 30 lb thrust at a marina today. The guy said that it had a scale on it that showed the stae of the battery charge. I saw a scale on the top of it, but it didn't look like something that would register the charge of the battery. Can anyone tell me if it does...

    Engine too small (options?)

Here's the problem. My buddy has a 19.5' Aquasport CC (1985). He had a 90 Merc. on it that blew. She ran at 30 MPH with the 90 and tacked out at about 5200. He was tight for dough, so he bough a rebuilt 75 HP Merc. The 75 is too small. She just about gets on plane and runs at about 22 MPH. I...

Trailer Dollys, Do they really work?

I saw an advertisement for a trailer dolly with inflated wheels, the one that has a long handle and ball that slides beneath the hitch coupling and raises the coupling and trailer tongue up when you push down on the handle. It showed a teenaged kid easily moving what looked to be about a 20'...

    Trolling battery discharge gauge?

Is there some type of gauge that I can attach to my trolling battery or trolling motor that would tell me the state of charge left in the battery? I figure it would help me to know how much longer I could run the trolling motor before the battery died.
Stalker
