    Can I do anything else?

So, 77 Mercury 1150, was in halfway decent shape, after the below replacements, I see there's a tiny bit of corrosion on the internal wiring harness so I'm wondering if that's it, but the guy before me said he disassembled the fuel pump and carbs last year and gave em a good cleaning. My...

Tri-hull doesn't like to center on trailer

I've got a 84 Venture Stallion, trihull, and a trailer with 2 bunks, and a front roller next to the winch. Unless I load it, check it, maybe have to back into the water again to center it, etc, it usually sits 2" to the left of center. I know this puts more weight on one side, but it seems to...

    Minn Kota foot pedal problem

The unit would not turn to the left, everything else worked fine. The hardest part of disassembly is sliding the top white plastic all the way to the right, and then somewhat pulling it up away from the back base, and then getting it to slide back left, up and away from the rest of the unit...

Bah, help! Solenoid terminals S and I?

1977 Mercury 1150, changing out solenoid, and mine doesn't match the manual... I know the PO changed the charging system from a stator and rectifier to a newer style rectifier/regulator, but I don't think this has anything to do with it? I could be wrong. Anyways, the manual I have shows the...

Cheap way to raise boat off trailer to paint the bottom?

Wanting to put a fresh coat on the bottom of my 16' fiberglass boat.. Seen a few ways to raise it off the trailer, some even say leave it on the trailer and move it forwards and back, but the engine I have is max for the boat, so the weight might make that a real bad idea.. Suggestions? Thanks!

    When to change water impeller?

So my g/f started the motor while it was partially out of the water, 77 mercury 1150.. It's still pushing water out of the pee hole, but it got me thinking, other than opening the lower unit and taking all that out to look, is there any other way to detect when you need to change the impeller?

    Starter solenoid not passing current

Engine is a 76 Mercury 1150~ I believe I've located my startup problem. It was intermittent starting, from no sound to full startup. Then a click started happening. If I measure voltage from the battery, the wire harness is good, (when it works) volts/amps are good to starter positive. But...

How to verify a deep cycle is not good enough for main engine starting?

Slowly I'm upgrading/replacing parts etc on a 76 Mercury 1150 I got on a boat few months ago... Had the starter replaced recently, but one thing remains, when starting, I can hear the starter spin, and this will go on for at least a few times when attempting to start. Then after x amount of...

Merc '76 1150 'slow to go' issue

So I'm still learning, new to boats, new to this one, new to it all... This motor is on a 84 Venture Bass Boat.. I was taking the boat to the 1 of 2 mechanics in town, but he seemed a little shady, and then him or someone else bent the heck out of my cowl because they ignored the fact they...

How to tell if throttle cable is bad, gear shift is misaligned, or remote box prob

I think I've narrowed it down to this.. done a bit of searching but mainly: Is the boot supposed to move at the throttle control lever independent of the metal threaded shaft the cable is in? How to tell if I need to adjust cables at the box? Or, if both above are ok, how do I identify the...

1" of throttle lever = 0-85%? No WOT, and neutral is 60% of lever movement

Had a buddy fix it originally... (I'm thinking of looking at the lever from the side view, so think of half a wheel) Originally the throttle lever for neutral would sit, just behind the straight up and down, 90 degree angle. So he said he fixed it, and neutral is now straight up and down. I...

    Compression results of 185ish on a 76 1150?

Wanted to do it all myself, but with work bein hell and just wanting to get on the water, I took it to the local shop.. Going to get it with the final paperwork, but the guy said the compression was 185ish on all cylinders? Is that plausible? I know the guy I bought it from said it was around...

76 Mercury 1150 Odd Starting, and starting battery vs deep cycle

I'm trying to trouble shoot why this motor isn't starting right away "like a car"? I'm not too familiar with powered boats, but I saw an article of "using deep cycle vs starting battery" and the need for it because of the initial larger amps needed.. I think the guy put a deep cycle in there...

Spark plug question for 76 Mercury 1150

*Apologies, could a mod please put this in the Mercury outboard motor section I see that the L76V is the suggested spark plug, but the guy I got the boat from put AC Delco V40FFM spark plugs in. I'm familiar with in-depth physics, and I'm assuming this plug runs cooler than a regular plug...

No stringers in 1986 trihull Venture Bass Boat?

Got a good deal on a boat, learning more about it, but it seems the entire thing is a mold of fiberglass and there's no stringers under the boat to create a skeleton? My buddy was confused by this, but I guess I can see it would be possible? I've looked all through it and don't see any signs of...

What's your favorite parts supply website?

So I got an awesome deal on an older boat, but the guy wasn't kidding, the 1976 1150 Merc is hard to find parts for :) One side seems to only say "obselete" next to the parts and no pricing, etc.. Another site seems to have compatible parts but no references to years etc.. Anyone have any...

Do I need to replace the skeg?

Hi all, new here, just got my first boat over the weekend. 1986 Venture Bass Boat with a 76 Mercury 1150. The guy has taken pretty decent care of the boat from what I can tell... In researching more of what I might upgrade or need to cleanup/replace, I noticed the skeg is partially broken, it's...
