    Boat Names

Re: Boat Names There is a boating saying you'll see a lot which states: "A bad day at the lake is better than a good day at work." So, how about "A Good Day At Work". A lot of boaters would give you the nod I think. After getting our vintage runabout home and cleaning it, our dog was up...

    My dream houseboat, for CHEAP!

Re: My dream houseboat, for CHEAP! Carp! The bank turned down my loan application. I guess you can have it this time 5150! It doesn't even come with a motor. Which begs the questions, where is the steering wheel? I would hate CL to delete these photos eventually and future generation...

    Wot @ 3000 rpm?

As a newb boat owner, and an avid reader of iBoats, I checked my RPMs at WOT on our 'new to us' boat this weekend and it's topping out at just above 3000 RPM. We have a 1980 Rinkerbuilt Runabout witha Mercruiser 3.0, 4 cyl. inline, 140 HP. The prop is 13.75", 21 pitch, and 15 spline. If I'm...

    Advice buying a used boat

Re: Advice buying a used boat We received our lettering from: http://www.custom-vinyl-lettering.net/ I learned about this site from friscoboaters SeaRay restoration thread. They are the cheapest I found, and they mailed the order the day after I ordered. The quality is top notch. It was...

Can I remove this trailer tongue?

Currently I'm unable to park my boat in my garage because the trailer is too long. But, it certainly looks like I could remove the front part of the trailer for storage this winter. With that front part removed it'll fit just fine. It's either that or build a cradle for it and store the trailer...

    Funky Oil

Tonight the wife and I sucked the oil from the Mercruiser 3.0. I've yet to purchase a proper pump, so I rigged up some fish tank tubing and a plastic pipe fitting, and hooked the sucking end to a vacuum cleaner. It was beautiful... I mean functional. After sucking out almost a gallon, we...

Boat = Country girl goes priss?

When I was a child, I always loved running around catching grasshoppers and snakes and whatever. We built go carts out of plywood and whatever motors we could find. We played with gasoline, burned ants, and did all the usual stuff. After serving in the Army, I came back home and met this girl...

    Need some decals and gauges

We bought a 1980 Rinkerbuilt 17' runabout this year. It's a fun boat and we've been enjoying it, but I noticed a few cosmetic issues I'd like to correct. Namely the decals, and the gauges. In the 1980's Rinkerbuilt dropped the 'built' from their name. I can fin 'Rinker' decals, but not...

    How to remove the engine

I've searched the forum and looked for videos, but so far I'm unsuccessful finding instructions on pulling a Mercruiser 3.0, 140 HP, inline 4 Cylinder. I have an old 1980 Rinkerbuilt that I'd like to work on this winter. Can anyone point me to tutorials on removing the engine? Thanks! Neil

Oil leak and bilge pump not working

After recently purchasing our used boat, the bilge pump has stopped working. There is a fair amount of oil under the motor, so I think it's clogged with oil and gunk. I think there must be a seal leaking on the engine. That'll be my winter project. I did pick up some 25W40, and need to replace...

Looking for my first project boat

I'd like to have a project boat to work on over the winter and am starting to look for one. This one caught my eye for example: http://lexington.craigslist.org/boa/3103267901.html But, I have hardly any experience. That doesn't scare me a bit though, I don't mind rolling up my sleeves and...

    Need a prop for a Mercruiser 3.0

Re: Need a prop for a Mercruiser 3.0 Steelspike, yeah, I know how it works, and my max bid is much more than the .99 cents. We'll see. fishrdan, thanks for the advice, I'll probably go ahead and buy new unless I get this one for real cheap. And even then, I'll sork on getting a new prop...

    Need a prop for a Mercruiser 3.0

During our most recent camping trip, we accidently dinged our prop on the launch ramp and messed up one of the blades. So, we're in the market for another one. I have a good old 1980 Rinkerbuilt bow runner with a GM inline 4 cylinder, 2.5L, 140HP and a sterdrive. Check my first posting for pics...

    Mercruiser 3.0 with noisy valves

Re: Mercruiser 3.0 with noisy valves Ok, crimped nuts replaced. The nylocks came off real easy too! They obviously heated up and backed off. While removing the valve cover, I noticed an insulated pipe just to the right of the valve cover, on the left hand side of the carburator. I noticed it...

    Mercruiser 3.0 with noisy valves

I recently purchased a 1980 Rinkerbuilt with a Mercruiser 3.0, aka GM Straight 4 140 HP, aka the "Iron Duke". On our last trip to the lake the valves started being noisy so when we got home, I did my research and found this video: I did the valve adjustment with no problems and replaced the...

    Advice buying a used boat

Re: Advice buying a used boat We had our first trip to the lake this weekend and had a great time. It would have been better it the rain and cold would have stayed away, and been even better if the engine didn't start making a new noise! (See my previous post if you know engines!) Anyways...

    New engine noise

This weekend we took our new (to us) 1980 Rinkerbuilt out for the first time. (Many thanks to this forum for helping me pick it out.) The first day and a half it ran great. But then, the engine started making a clanging noise in time and cadence with the RPM's. At about 50% or lower throttle, it...
