    Smooshed inlet valve seat washer

Under the valve needle seat in the inline 6 carb is a smooshed brass washer that seems to have become part of the carb bowl cover and I cannot get it out. I've tried to gently pry it with my punch and a tiny screw driver. So, now I'm wondering if I should install the new brass washer from the...

OK, so I've got the service manual and the wiring diagrams but I'm totally lost!! I see all sorts of wires labeled by color and numbered to the plugs, but what do I do with this? Am I supposed to trace each wire in the old and new to its respective component, then use that info to decide what...

Inline-6 carburetor inlet valve (Inlet Seat)

During the carburetor rebuild, I noticed I have two types of inlets: One with a rubber insert (A in the photo) and another kind that is all brass (B in the photo). The motor, a 1978 115, had the inlets with the rubber (picture A), but my rebuild kit has the inlets that are all brass (picture...

My air compressor has an oil dripper installed to introduce oil at a slow pace to lubricate my air tools as I use them. Do you guys use a simiilar setup for blowing out the carbs after a soak in carb cleaner, or will I want to tap off the compressor system before the oil dripper with fresh...

    Fox Chain-o-Lakes

Is the fox chain a safe and enjoyable boating destination or is it way too crowded and hazardous? I have a six year old who loves fishing and boating and the chain seems like a great place, but I've heard there are lots of accidents there. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Unable to prime-bulb won't firm up

I am not able to get the primer bulb to firm up. I pump and pump and I hear noise like squeaking or bubbles in it. The bulb almost feels like its having a lot of trouble filling up, as if the fuel line is constricted. Also, after a squeeze, it returns to the original shape very, very slowly...

Lights dim when keying mic on VHF

Is it normal for the running lights and dome lights to dim on the boat while keying the mic on my VHF while using the 25 watt setting? I'm thinking this is probably not normal and maybe I need to run a larger gauge wire from the battery to the fuse panel?

    Fuel sending unit trouble shooting

My fuel gauge reads 'E' when the power is on and I know I have about 1/2 tank of fuel. I touched a volt-meter to the wires at the sending unit to see if I had current and the fuel gauge then read 1/2 tank. Is there a fault in the system or would the meter cause enough change to the circuit...

Problem: I want to replace my bilge hose with a smooth inside, wider ID version. I am not able to gain access to the oem hose. Boat is 1986 Sea Nymph Fish-n-Ski. Motivation for this upgrade: Corrugated hose that is smaller ID than my upgraded bilge pump requires to reach full potential...

My neighbor was discarding four of these and I asked if I could have them. So, now that I have them, I don't see any mounts that seem to fit these. Does anyone know what type these are and how they are supposed to be mounted? Are there bases sold for these anywhere?

1986 Sears Gamefisher 5.0--Motor ok? Fair Price?

I'm looking at an '86 Gamefisher 5 hp that was purchased new in 1986 and used three times, then ran dry and stored until now. Using fresh gas, it started right up on the second pull yesterday. The motor is very clean (after dusting it off), and looks nearly brand new. I would use it as a...

'86 L115 Lower Unit gear lube leak

Uh oh...Trolled on Lake MI for a few hours last evening and everything seemed to run just fine. This evening I noticed a small puddle and lube running down the skeg (pardon the dings....it came that way). Does this mean I'm going to need to replace an oil seal at the prop-shaft? What else...
