It's that time again, well, at least here in Texas -- Getting her ready for Spring!

At the end of last summer I was out on Galveston bay and the throttle/shifter control handle fell apart. This is a single lever setup that controls both throttle and shifting. The pins in the control housing containing the rotors jammed and snapped causing the entire mechanism to fail. At the...

I have a GM Inline 6cyl (L6) 250 cid. The belt that goes around the alternator, crankshaft, and water pump pulley?s disintegrated...do I need to take the front engine mount bolt out and jack up the front of the motor to put the new one on? It looks as if that's the only way, wanted to make sure...

    WOT Issues

I just got my boat out of the shop...I thought I fried my engine, but the problem was that the starter was not shimmed correctly. They corrected that issue and checked the outdrive and water system out. Everything looked good, water moving like it should (small leak coming out of thermostat...

Water Pump --- What's the difference?

Hello, I hear the bearing going out on the water pump in the engine. It is an old 1960's Chevrolet 250 c.i. inline 6 cylinder. My question is, will the water pump from you local AutoZone be the same as the one in my marine inline 6? Is there a different pump for marine applications? The...

Outdrive Gear oil Gray and thick!

    Submersible Lighting Alternative?

I have been researching underwater lighting for my boat. I can only find these $500-$1000 LED lights. It just seems silly to spend that much on lighting. Are there any alternatives to these LED's, something way cheaper? Actually, I would like a 12v submersible drop style light that I could...

    Depth finder/ GPS/ Sonar

I am trying to decide on a depth finder. My usual boating activites include Galveston bay fishing (shallow), fishing in the ship channel, and off the jetties. Most likely never going out further than 30 miles off shore. A great majority of the time I would be in and around the bay...

How would I go about adding a 110V AC outlet in my boat...(I am not talking about shore power). I would like to run a very small 110 ac, and have a spot to plug in other AC gadgets. Would I need a power inverter for this? Is it possible to run a 110 A/C off of a 110 outlet connected to an...
