2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

The TCP replacement theory came from the troubleshooting on this thread where we saw the 5V Ref #2 having low voltage, until I unplugged the TCP where it jumped up to the 5V. Based on your recent comments, it seems that was not accurate so no need to have replaced the TCP. I found a GM version...

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Unfortunately I don't have the owners manual as I am not the original owner of the boat, so just going off of what I can find online. I do have a copy of the EGC Diagnostics Workshop Manual from the Diacom software

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

I haven't gotten a single comment on any other forum but this one. In fact, I tried to link this forum on Net Boat Talk in hopes of helping others dealing with a similar issue and I got banned 🤷‍♂️

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

That TCP and TPS value variance is something @tpenfield called out as well. Is that an issue with the sensor connection between those two, or something else? I replaced the TCP as mentioned earlier in the thread, and have a replacement TPS coming tomorrow as well to see if that helps, but not...

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Thank you so much for digging into this @muc I have a new knock sensor coming tomorrow so I will be replacing KS #2. Is there any way to see from non running/under load data if a replacement will fix the issue, or just have to take it out for a run and watch the volts as you mentioned? Also...

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

The main difference is that user experiences a loss of power, I never lose any power or ability to drive, I can push it to full RPMs and speed without hesitation, I just have to deal with hearing the soft alarm go off The alarm charts also point to similar things we are seeing, the 5V reference...

There is a single connector to the TCP, the attached pic is the one I replaced but you can see the connector

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

The wiring diagram I posted was from this full PDF Agreed on the scope of this, there is the issue of the 5V being low, and the Knock Sensor for some reason being triggered by the Codes, for now I am treating them as separate with hopes there may be some relation (or false codes)

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

all the parts diagrams I have found "seem" to show that the sensor is part of the actual throttle body assembly (https://www.volvopentastore.com/Throttle-Body-And-Throttle-Cable-Connection/dm/store_id.366--view_id.789172) I just unplugged this sensor with Diacom hooked up and the voltage didn't...

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Do you know if the TPS is on the throttle body? There is a thick plug but not a clear sensor like the other 8 (circled in red)

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

@tpenfield Just took the boat for a test drive with the new TCP installed, Diacom recording https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h1Gftcos9nDz8v6oi5fk9yqQRmKlsdJ_/view?usp=sharing The same alarms went off with the same symptoms you called out from the last one. First alarm went off at the 20:12:33 mark

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Running with this theory, the only way to truly test the new sensor is by running the boat (and not just testing the throttle when off like I did) correct? That way we can see if the TCP % are more aligned to TPS with the new sensor?

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Is the TPS on the throttle body assembly or behind the actual throttle handle? I unplugged every sensor (I believe there were 8 or so) but I don't recall coming across a TPS (I followed this for the sensors...

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

I just ran the graphs in Diacom from the recording I sent, and if you put Knock Retard with Soft Warning Output, the Knock Retard jumps exactly at the moments the soft alarms go off, and then go away at the same times too. So far that is the only combo that has been aligned

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

It goes from 4.10 at idle to 4.11 at WOT (I didn't test this with the engine running, just with the sensor plugged in and moving it by hand)

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Sorry, when you say "it" do you mean the new sensor? I can say with 100% confidence no other sensor caused any changes in the 5V reading when I unplugged them

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Just replaced the TCP sensor, and before taking it for a test drive the 5V ref 2 is still reading 4.10. When I unplug it, the value jumps back up to 5 as expected. What else could be causing this if the TCP sensor is brand new? Is there a bad wire in the feed from the sensor to the ECM?

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

Thank you both @alldodge and @tpenfield - I ordered a replacement TCP sensor that is hopefully coming tomorrow. Once replaced I will update the thread with my findings. Really appreciate both of your help

2008 Chaparral 275 SSI 8.1 Volvo Penta GXI-J Soft Alarm Issues

I unplugged every other sensor, the 5V reading didn't change for any of them, the only time it changed was the TCP where it jumped up to 4.98
