Piston Rings don´t fit, too little clearance, sits too tight

I'd say you probably should find a good automotive machine shop and get advice from them.

no oil after cylinder head recondition

Hydraulic lifters need clean motor oil to function properly....

no oil after cylinder head recondition

When you have water in the oil you get that thick mayo like emulsion that can cause problems like that, even in engines that were maintained before the water in the oil incident.

Outdrive will not go back into transom

Pulling the drive will not make it go out of alignment, but if there is a problem with the engine mount bushings, or transom, it can gradually sag out of alignment. Yours looks pretty close what it might be is you have to rotate the prop shaft to get the splines on the driveshaft to line up with...

no oil after cylinder head recondition

When I had the same problem on my 4.3 (water in the oil) I changed the oil 4 times and drained the water out of the engine each time, to get as much water out of the oil as possible, before I took it all apart. When there is water in the oil the oil gets thicker, that might have contributed to...

    Harbor freight jack.

I picked up a pair of the aluminum Daytona racing Harbor Freight jacks and am very happy with them. Light, work well but always use a jackstand!

lifter issue and rock arm registration

I remember looking at this thinking....ahh....first time I ever took a real engine apart....not sure if this is going to go all back together....but it did!

lifter issue and rock arm registration

Just remember if you are doing this, it helps a person who just pulled a 4.3 out of someone's old S-10 Blazer or pick up and just wants to get their boat in the water. All the questions lead to learning which helps others which is really the point of these forums!

Especially in the case of the Chevrolet small block series both V8 and V6, there are many variations.

a better fuel filter is good, but you can't use that model in the bilge of a gas inboard, the bowl has to be metal.

BEWARE of Faulty 87290A4 Thermostat Housing sold on Amazon!

I have had good luck with Barr Marine exhaust parts but I would always check with a straightedge and feeler gauges if both the manifold & elbow sealing surfaces are flat and level to less than .003".

    Quadrajet Replacement Options

I suggest you head over to Cliff's High Performance Quadrajets and join that forum and ask there. He's one of the recognized Q-Jet pros and what he usually says is that the reman Qjets that you can find online, are often "franken carbs" which is a collection of parts that don't work together...

    Quadrajet Replacement Options

You know I tried a brand new Holley 4160 on mine (the specific one that is jetted for the OMC and Volvo 4.3) when I thought that the Qjet was too old to rebuild and had no end of trouble with it. Rich running, fouling plugs, not matter what adjustments were done. Pulled the Qjet out of the...

BEWARE of Faulty 87290A4 Thermostat Housing sold on Amazon!

I have a few GLM parts for my Cobra because frankly there is no more OEM for some items but for critical parts like manifolds I use Barr Marine and for a stat housing I use OMC or Volvo (same part). I don’t like Amazon for automotive or marine parts. I use marine engine . com for OEM and decent...

    Quadrajet Replacement Options

Since you have a Merc rigged engine and Merc used the Weber 4bbl after Rochester quit making Quadrajets keep in mind the Weber & the Edelbrock are functionally the same. In fact I read somewhere that Weber actually makes the Edelbrock for them. Meaning that adapters for the throttle linkage...

Tinkering on the 4.3l this winter...

I think in your size/weight boat you'll be happy with the 4bbl. Keep it simple, less possibly for problems down the line. Think about stepping up to the Mercruiser/Quicksilver 25/50 syn blend oil. I think it tests out better than 15w/40s on UOAs from what I have seen as far as holding its...
