    Sammy Hagar would approve!

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Thanks for checking in guys. Looking for advice on those cushions. Currently they go all the way up under the closed bow area, and are awkward to remove. But, that also means they tend to stay put on their own as well; not likely to leave the boat in choppy windy conditions. If I make two...

    SS16 Side Cushion Attachment Methods?

@MNhunter1 Thanks again for the ideas. I followed through with a similar setup on my ship as well. More pics in the thread in my signature below.

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

To make the storage areas under the seats more accessible, I cut open the tops of the bow seats, and used the drop from there to plug the original side openings. The 'mousehole' at the front is still there for now. That space in the bow isn't very accessible unless I modify and reinforce the...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

This weekend I made applying last coat of paint, ripping off masking tape, polishing trim and making up side panels for the bow seating area. The previous side panels were rotten, held in place by steel machine screws that had corroded away to nothing. For replacement panels, I used 1/4" baltic...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Based on the beautiful craftsmanship on that rod locker, I doubt I had anything particularly profound to offer! Good to see more progress, and yes, the sun is warm and birds are singing. Our lake is still locked up with hard water, but south facing shorelines, and sections with current are...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

You mentioned you'd picked up that aluminum T trim like I'd used for the deck panels. I have a couple of thoughts that might be of value: 1.) I cut the trim in my miter saw with very slow feed rate. That left a very smooth cut. 2.) The vertical leg of the 'T' is sort of barbed to grab on to...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

They were both Tremclad, but the 1st coat was roll & tip with Tremclad from the can mixed with Krylon reducer and Krylon hardener. For the second coat I thought I'd try the aerosol can as all those inside corners were a pain with the foam roller. Lesson # 36 on the project. Stick with what...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

CC & SSM - Thanks. Like a bad cold for us so far. Hopefully that's it and we'll have supercharged immunity afterwards! CC - didn't get the cookie monster joke at first - thought there was crumbs on the jeans or something! I'm thinking now it's the colour! Yeah, it's "Medium Blue", a highly...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Here's a couple more pics. Here's the size of an adult foot on the cushion - no way it fits under the gunnel! These tall gunnels probably give lots of rigidity to the hull, but do take up space. What's the point of having these cushions extend way up to the bow? BTW, shown below are the old...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Still poking away at the boat painting process. Three coats on exterior (top three strakes), and 2 on most of the interior trim/gunnels/splashwell. One more coat on everything, and I think I'll call it done - looking forward to peeling the masking tape off, and getting on with assembly. I had...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Leave the overthinking to me! Sounds like you're sorting out a plan. I think I recall seeing pics of your vinyl liner in the past. Makes sense. My hull had nothing of the sort - just a couple layers of runny paint down the inside of the hull. I rolled the new Rustoleum blue right overtop...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I was worried about the same issue, and I ran a thick bead of sealant between the edge of the deck board and that flap of flooring. Tooled with a finger, it made a good connection with the underside of the Nautolex, and the edge of the ply. The sealant used was a tube of some exterior...

    SS16 Side Cushion Attachment Methods?

Thanks so much for all those detailed pics. That's awesome! I'll need to scounge up a few strips of 1/4" ply or equivlant for backers, and build something similar for along the gunnels.

    SS16 Side Cushion Attachment Methods?

Thanks for the pics. Is that a piece of wrapped plywood in front of the consoles? Is that the stock setup? Mine came with some homemade cushions mounted directly to the aluminum console - no ply panel in front. I really like those bow gunnel pads. Are they the stock Starcraft item? Any...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I didn't test 5200, but did use the "Amazing Goop" and found it bonded very well to the vinyl. They sell that stuff in a wide range of packaging - Shoe Goop, Automotive Goop, Household Goop. It all looks and smells the same to me, but here's the one I used:

    SS16 Side Cushion Attachment Methods?

Interesting - thanks for the details. The bow area is all spray-foamed pretty solid, and the gunnels have a block of that white beaded foam in there, so there is very limited access from behind, but they may have done it that my on my hull originally as well. That might explain the sawzall...

    SS16 Side Cushion Attachment Methods?

My SS16 clone had mostly decomposed side cushions around the gunnel sides and front of consoles. What are the recommended methods of mounting these? I can' say for certain, but I think the previous owner's method of using mild steel machine screws and kitchen cabinet knobs is not the best...

    Windshield booster?

@ShoestringMariner : I hadn't thought of lifting the whole console, but agree getting the steering up a few inches higher would be nice. Of course, it's almost April, so I need to focus on just getting splash-ready for the season!

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

My splashwell is already flat in that area, so that could work for me too. I think some add-ons will need to wait for 2023 though. Maybe we'll see how many times the portable ladder that just hangs over the side gets used. Off to roll a slightly thicker coat #2 shortly, if I can find my way...
