    If it worked correctly previously over time cables go bad.There are many reasons for ratcheting so start with the simplest, pull drive and inspect the shift components. In fwd it could be a simple adjustment ,in rev it could be corrosion in the shift slide and no adjustment can correct this...

    Evinrude E175FPXSSR Have a overheat on a customers motor and I`m not that familiar with these. changed wp kit, no damage seen changed thermoststs ,no change ran with thermostats removed, no change dropped lower unit and put hose directly to the water inlet tube. No change to the overheating...

    you state you replaced the gimbal bearing, what did you use to install it? Was the drive difficult to remove? Gimbal bearing may not be centered, did you rap the slignment bar up,down,left,right?

NOPE A hot rod trick is to run at a high idle and pour a coke soda bottle of water down the carb slowly. .It will vaporize any carbon in the cylinders. The motor should have a 140 stat and never go above 160. As per the other suggestions...

    if you already remove both manifolds, put muffs on drive, start engine to dry the cylinders, NO MORE THAN 25 SECONDS AT A TIME If you never overheated it then I have my doubts on a gasket. Most water issues are leaking riser to manifold areas or a physical crack in manifold or riser
