    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

Not very difficult or time consuming to drill out the rivets and reinstall after addressing the corrosion. Well worth it in my opinion.

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

The stringers are usually attached to the tops of the ribs. I always remove them as the rivets are generally loose and need some attention anyhow.

    1978 Supersport 18

I've used the storm grey Nautolex on two different boats and will be using it again on my current build. I do not feel it gets too hot. I've had thoughts about using the black at times, but shy away from it due to the heat concerns. Stick with a light color and I think you'll be fine.

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

I did not find the need to cover it with plastic. This was the current version on the shelves at the local HD and Menards. The spray seemed to work a little faster, but I was also using it on what was likely a thinner layer of paint (inside of center console). I found around 45 minutes to be...

    New Journey

I have officially completed the removal of all paint from every last piece of this build. It's a good feeling to put away the stripper and know that tedious and somewhat messy task is behind me. From the outside/inside hull, splashwell, aft side panels, aft splashwell panels, side supports...

1973 Starcraft SuperSport 16ft. restoration questions

I used that stripper on my previous boats and it work fantastic before they changed the formula and removed the methylene chloride. I just finished the last of the paint removal from all parts of my current MR180 rebuild and used the Citristrip this time around. I was pleasantly surprised how...

    1987 Starcraft islander 190v?

After all foam is removed, I used a combination of orange and grey nylox brushes, and stainless steel cup brushes on a cordless drill to remove all the corrosion and clean the hull. Followed with a good pressure wash (used throughout the process as well) and a 50/50 cleaning vinegar/water...

    New Journey

Spent a lot of time with the Citristrip and orbital sander over the weekend. These MR models have a lot more aluminum panels and pieces than what I had on my Nova and SS. I'm sometimes tempted to just slap some Nautolex over it and save myself the time, but I'm too OCD to cover a mess rather...

2lb or 4lb foam for Islander cabin

I concur with DCampbell, after removing the floatation from three different hulls, two with the foam board and one with pour in, no way am I ever putting pour in to one of my boats again.

    1968 StarCraft Holiday restoration

I've been brainstorming different ideas for my deck as an access point for the cables and lines running from the center console to the stern. Not quite as accessible under the deck as they are when they're ran under the gunnels or behind the side panels.

Nice work! Those rivet nuts are a nice addition for that access panel.

Just wanted to check in and keep the thread alive. Not much work done on the MR180 with the boys football seasons starting and hunting season quickly approaching. Got roped into assistant coaching 4th grade tackle and 3rd grade flag, so time has been somewhat limited. Been trying to get all...

    1985 MR180 Windshield

Great resources! I have mine for my MR180, but will save this away for any future replacement needs. The Starmada rocks!

Good stuff right there, thanks! Do you think the "lubricates" properties would cause issues with the adhesion of Marine-tex? I was planning on skimming over any pitting. Some reviews say it dries clear with no residue, so that's promising. They also say it can be applied once a year, but I'm...

    New Journey

Got some work done in between the family time this weekend. Figured I’d be hammering some solids anyway so might as well pull the knee brace. Glad I did...what a mess. Also helps with draining the hull with all the extra holes:) Think I’m finally done with all the scrubbing inside the hull...

paralysis by (over)analysis... Am I compromising anything by going with a 6ply ACX 3/4" over a 7ply Marine Grade 3/4" for my transom build? My previous two boats I went with the ACX throughout. I picked up 1/2" Marine Ply for the deck on this one as the cost was a wash with the ACX at the...
