    Need help

Let's form a partnership. I will gather up a bunch of my old Navy buddies and will supply you with not only reactor operators but nuke certified welders if anything needs fixed before we throw the switch. My last duty station was at a Naval Maintenance Facility in quality control making...

How boats were launched 100 years ago.

I imagine that some of the yachts launched on Lake George were owned by the same people that owned the trains.

How boats were launched 100 years ago.

Never gave it much thought but an interesting aspect of boating before trailers. https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=916328380303321&set=a.154384629831037

    New Houseboat owner

The bright side is that manuals, wiring diagrams, etc are available for the engines and drives. The rest probably never existed. Liken it to buying an almost 50 year old mobile home and trying to get plumbing and wiring diagrams for it. Some of the things such as plumbing fixtures...

    Extending my trailer bumpers

Assuming the trailer is right for the boat, right size, bunks adjusted correct, etc. the mistake I see so many new boaters make is submerging the trailer to deep. Rather than the bunks or rollers centering the boat and guiding it on the trailer it tends to float over them ending up crooked.

    Photos not saving to server

Yep, I tried to upload a picture of me with a whole boatload of big fish but it kept getting rejected. Thought maybe my picture itself had a virus so I deleted it from the camera and now no one will ever see it.

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

Agree. However awareness has to be increased when visibility decreases. Less time to make decisions when a situation arises. Now that I am 85 I realize that my reflexes and vision are not the same as 50 years ago and make adjustments to compensate. One of the biggest adjustments was getting...

Why I'm nervous boating at night...

There was a time my job required working at night on the lake. I remember both amusing and scary times. Running up on plane responding to an emergency call and our patrol boat at the time always had a problem with reflection off the windshield when the blue lights were activated. So we would...

    The special toolbox drawer

Bingo. except my GM distributor wrench was a dog bone that i sawed the end off and welded it back on at a 90 deg angle. And the piece of an Allen wrench soldered to a piece of throttle cable housing with a homemade handle to set dwell. Wonder how many people still alive today own two dwell meters.

    The special toolbox drawer

How many of you have more than a few of these in your tool box drawers. It can be a trip down memory lane remembering for what vehicle each one was for. Picture is not my stuff but have a lot similar including home made sockets made from 2 1/2" pipe for nuts on floating axles.

    Tips On Replacing Starter

Just replaced a starter on my skid steer with this method since it also was a one-handed job. Got a couple of manifold studs the right size as guides. Finger tighten a nut on one before removing the other one to hold the starter in place to replace the stud with bolt. Yes it was a gear...

    Chainsaw Carving

Here is one with a nautical theme from Hoosekow (A meeting of carvers from all over the country much like a trappers' rendezvous) that takes place every years about ten miles from my home.

    Chainsaw Carving

This has been sitting in the parking lot of a public park a few miles up the road for a few weeks now. Finally took the time to stop and get some pics today. Paddles are marked Lewis and Clark.

    Scraped bottom

I could smooth out those burrs with the file on my leatherman tool. I wish that was the worst damage I ever did to a prop in my 74 years of operating power boats. Smooth it up and go boating but having a spare is always a good idea.
