    AQ125a overheating

The kick stand you referred to is the trailering bracket. It has to be removed for boating. The way the Volvo trailering/beaching lift is made the pitch of the lift screw will not hold the drive up when trailering and the drive could be dragging on the ground.

    for discussion

There is a marina somewhere in Nova Scotia that has under ground power cables. At a OMC seminar they showed us a picture of a drive completely eaten off at the water line.

    1987 VP 290 cooling problem

In the lower the water cavity should be open. The stainless tube in the suspension fork is hollow. Unless it is packed with mud I cannot imagine what could cause water not to flow. Keep us informed what you find.

    1987 VP 290 cooling problem

Try plugging the hole first. Also check the area where the lower unit mates to the suspension fork. There is a “O” ring at that joint that will get air if the “O” ring is worn. This causes overheating when the boat is planing.

2005 5.0 gxi-b belt jumped and wiped out,

If there are 2 brackets using the same mounting bolt maybe the pump bracket goes under instead of over.

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

It needs to be really glued in place with some 3M or similar adhesive. Leave it set for some time. Use a new gasket and water passage “O“ ring. Support the drive so that you do not have to hold it up to install it. Without support you run the risk of dragging the large seal ring into the...

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

Have you pressure tested the outdrive? Is there water in the drive? When the drive was installed was the large rubber ring glued in place?

Major engine malfunction today and could use advice on next steps

I doubt the coil is bad. The only vulnerable part would be the solid state parts.

Major engine malfunction today and could use advice on next steps

The squeal was probably the alternator belt. I am going out on a limb but with the loose ground cable it caused maximum load on the alternator and voltage spikes on the negative side that could have cooked the electronic ignition if you have it. I am just guessing but this is the only thing I...

    Mercruiser Alpha 1 Shift Interrupt

Another thing that may help. There is a “V” shaped stainless wire spring that centers the “V” notch interrupter lever. Remove the lever remove the bolt that holds the spring and try spreading the spring wider giving more tension. When the cable is in good condition you should be able to...

    1970 MC-1 gear oil blockage.

The vent is the one just above the cavitation plate. The larger one above it was for a flushout. It would connect with a threaded hole in the water pump base plate. So just remove the vent plug and pump the oil in. There should be 2 plugs on the upper, pump oil in one side until it comes ou...

    Helmut pin removal

Take a punch and a hammer and knock it from side to side which should get it loose. I remember some of those, at least Volvo made a change.

    1970 MC-1 gear oil blockage.

I am also in agreement with the Bt doc. What may have happened in the past the lower was replaced with a later style that had the transfer port. I have had to drill and tap a vent port in the side of the later models which is easy to do.

    Separate intermediate housing?

The one on the right looks just like mine. You will need it on the lower nuts. A socket with extensions works on the upper ones. Good luck I sent you a private message some time ago with my phone# if you have any questions.

    Separate intermediate housing?

Once the boot is removed. The intermediate housing can be separated from the exhaust/flywheel housing. A Ford 1/2” distributor wrench comes in handy for reaching some of the tight nuts. Remove the intermediate shaft first and hopefully it is not rusted it the drive coupler. Also if it has...

Alpha gen 1 shift cable adjustment.. cannot get reverse.

Also blowing out the cavity that the slider travels in for reverse may help. You would be surprised how much marine sludge will come out.

Increasing travel of remote shift cable

If you remove your control and look on the inside there should be an additional mounting point for the shift cable. If yours is a genuine mercruiser control it should have 3” of travel. Yours is most likely not a mercruiser type.

My Boat cut out when I hit a decent size wave today. Merc A1G1 3.0.

As scott06 mentioned check the cannon plug, remove it then with a thin screwdriver try to expand the male pins slightly. Then be sure it is fully engaged, if it was help on with a worm clamp do not tighten it too much as this could distort the connections.

2005 5.0 gxi-b belt jumped and wiped out,

To me it appears that 1 of the pulleys are further forward than the rest which is eating up the rib closest to the engine. If you have a straight edge try to see if one is not lining up.

Leak on my Alpha 1 on shifter rod

It looks like you have a leak where the driveshaft goes into the drive shaft housing. Also looks like water mixed. When you pull the drive have a drain pan under because otherwise there will be a mess to clean up.
