Evinrude 25 Project - Rocky Start

Not as confused so much as unedjimicated. Never had to take one apart before. I imagine it's a pretty simple device, but don't follow what you're saying about the rope being timed. Could you explain it so a noob might follow what you're saying? Guess I might as well pull it off now. Something...

Evinrude 25 Project - Rocky Start

Finally found time to mess with my new motor, a '77 25 HP Rude. Would like this to be the main motor for the MirroCraft. So need to make sure everything is adjusted and working correctly. Not off to the greatest start. Wanted to pull plugs and check compression. Plugs gapped wrong (I think?) at...

    Evinrude 25 - Part Missing

I figured as much. Just how my luck seems to be running. Any idea what motors would have the silencer I need?

    Evinrude 25 - Part Missing

What about this guy? Cousin under the skin? I can pick it up cheap and could prob use parts on other motors.

    Evinrude 25 - Part Missing

Older models probably won't work? I see a few cheap OMC motors for sale locally, was trying to figure out if any of them would have the part I need.

    Evinrude 25 - Part Missing

So 77 and newer Johnny Rudes only?

    Evinrude 25 - Part Missing

Good to know, but why bother when you can get most anything on ebay? Not a big fan of that site these days, but they have several of these parts. I'd just rather pay a little less if possible. Be cool to know what motors have the same part. Are 18s and 25s the same family?

    Evinrude 25 - Part Missing

I looked at that once before and didn't see any near me. Guess I'll look it over again. Thanks for the tip.

    Elgin restoration

I hear you. Looking for something in the 15-35 HP range from the 50s for the Mirrocraft. Most of the oldies I'm seeing are way to small for a decent sized boat.

    Boat Disposal

Well unless the cows complain he should be OK. The nearest human being is probably a mile away!

    Evinrude 25 - Part Missing

Does anybody know what years and HP ranges interchange? A similar Johnson should work I'm thinking. Pasting in pics of what think I need. Anybody got one laying around they'd part with?

    Elgin restoration

Good luck, these old engines have some nice lines don't they? Oddly I seem to see quite a few Elgins for sale locally.

    Boat Disposal

Thanks Jimmbo. Good eye you got. It is indeed a '77. Trailer disappeared real quick. Sold it to a guy who wanted to haul a big canoe around. Maybe I sold it too cheap, but I did recoup most of what I paid for the trailer and motor, so can't complain.

    Slip Bobbers

Those look pretty cool. I haven't bought any yet, but need to get off my butt and make me a tackle order. Thanks for the link.

    Evinrude 25 - Part Missing

Just picked up a 77 Rude 25. Model 25702S Looks like a runner to me, but am I wrong or shouldn't it have some kind of air breather on the carb? Is it OK to run it this way? Think I see a CDI box on this so no points right? Those coils look fairly new too I'm thinking.

    Gear Oil Pump Storage

Hate to admit it, but my pump came in a pretty nice little ziploc bag. Didn't think much about it at the time, but it'll work fine for storage I reckon. I like the shop towels idea though. Think I'll do that too.

    Boat Disposal

I just went that route on another trailer. It's slow and not real easy, but do-able. Still waiting for the actual title to arrive and it's been over 3 mos. Got the boat title yesterday though, so hopefully pretty soon. Attaching some pics of new goodies. I stripped the trailer of all the odd...

    Gear Oil Pump Storage

That's what I was thinking, but I never had a pump before. Thanks for the edjimication!

    Boat Disposal

Many thanks for all the helpful comments. Especially the cautionary ones. I've been guilty over the years of not taking proper precautions, but I mostly do now days. Even though it's a bit of pain sometimes. I appreciate the concerns and am happy to report that the owner of the boat decided to...

    Mystery Part - Help!

Finally got her back together, but I had to drop the gear box and shaft and get it on the bench. Man, this is one rough job getting those retainers back in where they belong.
