    Mercruiser 3.0 Overheat stop working

My '93 engine was swapped for an '82, but the EST ignition was retained. Yours may be the same situation. Does your distributor look like this; with two flat connectors at the bottom? Does your coil look like the one in this pic with the two grey connectors, or is it a cylindrical...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Overheat stop working

Are you sure it overheated? Maybe it was something like an ignition module going bad.

    Mercruiser 3.0 Overheat stop working

If you had the plug wires off of the distributor, you may have put them back on in the opposite order. I did that once and it acted as you described.

I carry a bucket of water with a drizzle of Dawn dish soap in it for lube and as a whetting agent.

Sea Ray 180 sig series termite/water in ski locker rot

Welcome. You are off to a good start. All of the above, especially the part about measuring and taking notes. Make sketches. Take what you think are too many pictures and you will be glad you did when you have to go back and refer to them. Make sure your phone is backing up your pics to...

    Foaming my Hull

Have you tested some pour foam on the foam board to make sure one won't eat the other? They are different types of foam. Oh, and one tip on the pour foam; heat is your friend. If you have the liquid at room temperature, and preheat the hull with a blow dryer or two, it will expand really...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Fantastic job on this. I've really enjoyed following your story because you started (more or less) where I did; new to boats. Now you are an expert because you did your research and weighed all of the forum advice you were given. You are not a newb any more. No sir! Not only that, but your...

2021 Splash of the Year Nominations

I'm glad we are up to five. I hope we find more. Because a win among a challenging field is truly a win. Even a loss in such a crowd is not hard to accept. A nomination is a humbling recognition of the qualification all to itself. Besides, win or lose, we all have boats that float, now. :)

I suppose you could leave the outside bare and the inside black. 🙃

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Mine has bare aluminum. Doesn't cause me any problems, and no concerns about scratching it. I get glare off the dash, though. Bare aluminum can help define the windshield an make it part of the overall shape of the boat. However, black frames tend to disappear when you look out through them...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I was able to run mine without the drive by connecting a garden hose to the hose that would normally be fed by the impeller in the drive. Turned in on low and it worked well.

2021 Splash of the Year Nominations

I check the forums often. Every weekday, in fact. I'm not posting much on my build, but am following others' builds. I currently have an active thread about using stop leak products on a raw water cooling system to seal freeze cracks. I saw this nomination last week, but was not aware I...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

By the way, thank you again for pointing this out. There were some places on those first pieces that I marked with blue sharpie that eventually bled through. They don't bother me, because it was part of my journey, but that woud've been everywhere had you not warned me.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I used clear plastic to make my upholstery patterns. The trick I learned was to use spray adhesive (Foam Bond) to hold it in place while marking it out with a sharpie. A little stick 'em in the corners might have helped you a bunch. Even so, you won't have to drag a huge piece up into the...

Block sealant...in a raw water system

Only visually when I had it open to reseal it and check clearances. No water in the oil at all.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Clever idea. I made my carpet template out of the carpet. Q: will your passenger seat have enough room to swivel around and face rearward? Like for watching a skiier.

Block sealant...in a raw water system

Hmmm. That would sick to spend over $300 stitching that only to have a head gasket fail and need the block decked. It's a slippery slope. But just to be clear, the Lock-n-Stitch pins draw the metal toward the pin, not wedge it away. Video HERE I haven't winterized it yet, and hope to take it...
