What happens to water in the carb?

Just curious if it eventually runs through or if it just sits there. Assuming that there's enough gas getting through to keep the engine running. I've always drained the bowl at least, but it's a PITA to get at sometimes (talking not just boats here).

    Water in shift cavity?

Didn't pull my drive last season (alpha 1 gen 1). Took on some water and was concerned that it made it to the drive. Pulled the drive and found a small amount of water in the shift cavity. No rust yet. Everything else was dry. Still have the old style shift seals, is that the most likely...

    Replacement alternator for 470/breezeworks

I need a replacement alternator for a 470 3 wire breezeworks conversion. Can anyone tell me which mercruiser alts can replace it? Scoreboard: Original horrible charging system: Lifespan=26 years Mode of failure=regulator failure, "hmm, I'm charging at 18v" Fix=leisurely breezeworks conversion...

first time up with the roboshoulder!

Major shoulder reconstruction after snow skiing 1.5 years ago. Too scared to go last year. And this year. Finally said screw it, had some calm water today. Had the wife pull me, got up no probs in the 66" double high wrap. Went about 2 miles. Not too aggressive, but not terrible either. Psyched...

    wacky tachy

Almost have the craft free of gremlins. I had a miss when warm last week. Replaced the coil and cleaned connections, which has cured that. Since then the tach has been floating, bouncing and reading higher than it should. Seems worse at higher speed, and also worse when hitting the trim button...

    470 misfiring

I've been working on the floor of the boat this year. Finally got a new floor in and gel coated. Way more work than I wanted, but came out nice. Waiting for the new seats now. Anyway, finally got it out on the water for the first time this year. Went about 15 miles and it ran great. The last 5...

Need a couple of quick answers re gel coat

Sorry about not posting this in my restore thread. I'm in the middle of gel coating. I have a few hours before I need to leave. I want to lay 2 more coats. 1) how much time is the minimum between coats? 2) if I don't use surfacing wax, what's the max time I can go before needing to sand before...

    Stupid fuel gauge question

My gauge is on empty, I have a full tank. Going to tackle it on tuesday, but when I measured resistance at the sender between the 2 posts just in passing a few weeks ago (wiring colors appear screwed up) I got 240 ohms. Looking that up now it appears that that should be the reading on an empty...

    Low power, 25hp Merc

This season I had been having trouble with my 2004 25hp merc. It's been a low speed problem; I found water in my tank/filter. Cleaned out, ran better but still had an idle problem. Once it got going, it was fine. Yesterday I decided to adjust the idle and low speed mixture. I set the mixture...

SAE or metric on '04 5.0?

My buddies' wife wants to buy him a tool kit for his "new" '04 4winns after it nearly sank last time we were out ("Hey Jeff, why is your bilge pump still running? you're welcome that I noticed...). It's a 5.0 EFI. Is this still SAE, or have they moved on to metric yet?

    Cost/Effort of interior refurbish

Trying to make a decision on my Glastron. Have had it for 7 summers now, and it suits my needs. Just bought a cheap 470 complete engine that I can rebuild at my leisure should my engine get sufficiently tired. The interior is starting to look rough after 30 years, and I have a soft spot on the...

    Lifting a 470?

Came across an old 470 with outdrive for $300. Since I didn't need either, I went ahead and bought it ;) Outdrive looks a bit rough, no idea the gear ratio. Popped the top and fluid was low, with some surface rust on the gears. Engine starts and runs, which is good enough for the money. First...

Hmm, missing a part of my leg

40 mile jaunt today for lunch. Coolant leak may be stopped for now, but when I got home I noticed that I was missing part #4, and maybe 3 from the below diagram. What exactly is #3? I won't have access to civilization for a while. Looks like the parts are only there to keep water out of the...

    Stringer inspection

Got a buddy looking at a 20' searay. Po said the floor was replaced several years ago. I'd be concerned about the condition of the transom/stringers. Transom I guess could be inspected with a couple of drilled holes. What about the stringers? Is this just paranoia?

    170, perpetual riser gasket leak

Leaking AGAIN from the reservoir/manifold gasket. This is an almost yearly occurrence. I've tried OEM, and I think every aftermarket brand. Tried with and without gasket sealant. I stripped out another bolt on the manifold today, and replacing it with a helicoil was an adventure (the bolt hole...

    Where's my skeg?

Just drove 1/2 mile to pull the boat out (needed to replace the #&%$ riser gasket yet again), noticed that I had significantly less skeg than when I started. Strange ; high tide, didn't feel like I hit anything. Is a skeg guard the best solution for this? Afraid to leave it nekkid in case...

Found the problem, what's the solution?

So the boat hasn't worked right yet this year. Thought I had it straightened out, but today got out there, was surging, wanted to cut out, etc. Have suspected water in the fuel, today confirmed it (disconnected fuel line, here's what came out- see pics). Am in the midst of installing fuel/water...

    I'm an idiot.

Got a great deal on CL for a HE front load washer/dryer. Problem was, the dryer was gas (guy says that's why he couldn't sell it and kept dropping the price), and I don't have a gas line in the laundry room (but had been planning on running one through there to supply the grill). I love NG, and...

    Idle thoughts...Should I get a new boat?

Have had my Glastron going on 7 seasons now, and am thinking about getting something new(er). The 3.7l has been great (for the most part, for a 30 year old boat), but at some point will need a rebuild I guess. Bigger concern is the interior. There are a few soft spots on the floor, and I don't...
