Thanks Sam and KC, sorry for the delayed response, busy Christmas weekend with gigs, which is good, now I can buy some more resin! KC, I do go easy with the paper, mainly to just knock the nubs down and also the edges of the 1708, snagged my fingers a few times and also makes it easy on the...

I got the 2nd layer of tabbing down and the 2 step downs finished yesterday. I was hoping to be able to lay down one layer of CSM but ran out of time. I want to go over everything with 36 grit to get rid of any hard edges so the CSM lays down really smooth and easy. I am hoping to get a lot done...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Looking great Tod! I think it is funny I am finishing the deck before doing the transom and you are doing the opposite at almost the exact same time. My deck doesn't touch the transom so that is why I am doing it this way. Keep the pics and updates coming! Buck.

What do you know about Archercraft from the 70's?

Welcome to the madness of boat restoration! That is a really cool boat. This is a great place to be, great info in past threads and great advice from those who will chime in over time. I think my best advice is just dig in and find out what needs to be replaced and post pics and questions as you...

More progress! Yesterday I did all the PB which took longer than I thought it would and today I got the first layer of tabbing done which took less time than I thought it would, go figure. I ran out of resin and it is going to be a busy weekend so I might not get back at it until next week. I...

Sorry I stated stringers in my last post, too late to edit. Brain hadn't woken up yet, I only have bulkheads, no stringers. And KC thanks for the encouragement. Builds like yours keep me motivated.

Yes Sam and Chuck I am trying to add as much structural support as possible. This is a pic from a long time ago, there were only 4 stringers. As you can see they used dimensional 2x which would be good if they actually glassed all the way across the board and the board actually contacted the...

So I had a big dose of irony smack me on the back of my head. I did the grinding this last July in a tent in Florida, cursing myself the whole time. I did more grinding and started the rebuild while wishing it was cooler. I get my foam kit from US Composites at the same time we finally get a...

Thanks guys for all your advice. I had rounded over all the top edges but it still was very difficult but is done now. I am thinking this will help others in the future. My bulkheads (no stringers) were coated before with resin then 2 layers of 1708 up the sides with the 2nd layer to the top and...

    Wood for bulkheads

Another wood to stay away from is red oak. White oak only for marine use.

    1977 Lowe Line

Something that might work but you need to experiment on a small spot first and I don't know about using it on the vinyl but should work really well on the hard surfaces and that is Round Up, yes, weed killer. Just be careful with it and rinse, rinse and rinse. We had a horrible experience...

'65 Lyn Craft Seabreeze 1500 Sport Runabout

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break. I made a lot of progress on my project this last week. I now have the deck in! It was so frustrating to get the 1708 to lay down over the top of the bulkheads, twice I took off soaked pieces and threw them away, couldn't get the air pockets out. The...

I got the bulkheads PB'd and filleted in. The bucket has a tow chain in it and I have 2 10 lb weights on the ends. I put them there so I wouldn't bump the whole grid out of place. I had to put a little more space under the middle bulkhead to lift it, glad I checked with a straight edge, I...

I needed a way to stand the bulkheads up while I tabbed them in, decided to add a permanent piece of cypress. Let me know what you guys think, I will be adding pour foam and this is more than what was there before, plus having added 3 to 4 layers of 1708 should give it plenty of strength. There...
