    Carburetor question

I did not bay test today. I had parade duty and the route went past the boat ramp I use. I took one look and said "hell no." I'm off Friday, we'll figure it out then.

    Carburetor question

So, a few observations I made when looking at the stripped carburetor: Float adjustment was out, not bad but not great. Also whoever adjusted it just twisted it so the dot lined up. The outside edge was correct, the inside edge sat about 1/4 inch higher... Not ideal. Also the old float seemed...

    Carburetor question

Kit is on the bench too. So far I've soaked the stripped air horn and cleaned in my ultrasonic tank... I didn't pull the plunger from the air horn as it moved nice and free and I didn't want to deal with peening the case again if not necessary. Gaskets all came off nice and clean, all mating...

    Carburetor question

So I've got it stripped down, jets are 1.55mm which from what little info I could find are the appropriate jets for the carb so that's good. As far as the power valve piston... it seems fine? moves freely anyway... Are there any other ways to test that part?

    Carburetor question

The carb has made it from the boat to the work bench next to the rebuild kit... If I get home tonight after work and it magically rebuilt itself I wouldn't complain. We'll see what happens when I pull it apart. Looking at the under side where the gasket/spacer are, it hasn't been gone through in...

    Carburetor question

    Yeah that's the one.

    Carburetor question

Yeah. I intend to check the fuel pressure... I'm not seeing any fuel dribbling into the carb from the vent or venturi like I had on my old engine when I rebuilt the carb... but you never know. Can't check anything until it's apart.

    Carburetor question

Think what I'll do is throw in a set of clean plugs, run it hard then pull the plugs to get a read on exactly how rich it is then go from there... I fell onto a 4 barrel carb and manifold cheap and may just do that if the jetting is off. That carb has all the correct parts in it still. Hopefully...

    Carburetor question

I bought the engine off a mechanic for a repower. Story is he sent it out and reinstalled the engine in the customers boat. Boat went to hell and sat for a season or two then they junked it and he resold the engine to me a couple months ago... had about 50 hours or so on it. Far as I/he knew it...

    Carburetor question

I actually checked it when I bought it... about 155 across the board.

    Carburetor question

Yeah, maybe I'll pull it apart when I have the time and see if the jets are stamped the right size and go from there.

    Carburetor question

Mercarb. No clear hose as it's a factory electric fuel pump engine.

    Carburetor question

I actually zip tied the choke open just to be sure, but it appears to be opening all the way. That was my first thought though Not a bad idea. It's one of the low pressure electric ones from merc (Its a later vortec block without the mechanical provisions) but I suppose something could be up. I...

    Carburetor question

Long and short, I am working on a 4.3l with a carb that is running what I would call excessively rich. Boat ran for about an hour and while idling around produced more black soot and smoke on the transom than my 33 with twin diesels... Running on the hose results in eye watering and fuel smell...

Advice on a 4 winns restoration

There is a lot going on between the cabin bulkhead and all the cross bracing done inside the cabin. That is the only thing I am unsure of making look right when finished. But again. I know my limitations and there are certain things on it that I would need two hands on. It's not a matter of if I...

Advice on a 4 winns restoration

From the cabin and fuel tank inspection of the stringers it looks like a chop mat with a bad lay up. But the back looks like a chop gun, so I can't say for sure. granted it's still a nicer job than anything on the welcraft. (other boat) I would have figured by 2006 they would have had that...

Advice on a 4 winns restoration

That puddle of water is actually from the bilge because the nose is down in the driveway. But that all doesn't matter. Absolutely no one around me said they'd lend a hand if I were to do it. I can't do every thing myself. Well I can but you have to draw a line for certain things... guess I know...

Advice on a 4 winns restoration

I'm just going to throw a piece of ply over the soft spot, ignore it for a year or two more then just can the whole thing. At this point... I'm done.

Advice on a 4 winns restoration

I pulled back the beauty cover around the fuel tank about a foot further up and everything up there is clean and solid. But you can't patch a stringer. The nice thing? I'll have most of a template to go off of but that doesn't really help that much. I think I am going to start cleaning out the...
