    FYI...you cannot take new parts and put in old housing using same shims. You will need to: A) Buy a shim gauge tool or B) take to a dealer that has tool and pay them to set pinion height. ( this is cheapest and best)

    This is a new one on me as I have remanned over 500 engines and never seen a piston skirt grow. If it was .014 over there is no way the skirts didnt drag on the way out

    Replace the pistons as driving them out with stuck rings damages the ring lands. A 2 stroke piston ride on the rings at top and skirts at the bottom. All 2 stoke pistons are tapered.

    90 Johnson 60hp off idle problem

    That engine has a bridged exhaust port and if weak water pump or overheated, bridge will scuff exhaust side of piston. You will see lil scuffing on cylinder wall. One surefire sign is if it will idle and you slowly advance throttle , if it sounds gargled/bubbly thru carb throats its scuffed.

    Your motor does not have a VS or vapor pump. Does it smoke heavily when you start it? If so need to change the cap on oil tank can cause what you are seeing. I really dont like the carb picture as someone has had #3 carb off and installed a kit but other are original also see worm clamp on carb...

    Easier to drill it beside exhaust plate on top of block. There are thousands of these engines still in operation without this modification and it was for engines on pontoon and deep V boats in aerated water that had problems.
