does this prop seem "reasonable" for this combination?

Ill have it out on the water again likely tomorrow. The props all came with the boat, and now I have the best of the three on there. One is scrap, another is serviceable, but could use some love with a file (and a rebalance after) to knock off the burrs, and the one on there now has a couple...

    1989 5.7L 4brl won't idle below 900 - 1000 rpms

Sounds to me as the idle circuit is getting gummed up and not passing fuel. Having to crack the throttle plates gets it slightly into the main jets and is a bandaid for a dirty carb in need of a Berrymans bath and a rebuild

    replace or rebuild merc carbs

that can be debateable. Since EFI took over, the number of people that can COMPETENTLY overhaul a carb has gone down exponentially. A larger outfit that does nothing but carbs should be familiar with the intricacies of what they are working on. Not so much Joe Six-Pack at the local garage who...

    Dean's List gets another motor

yep, check it for burrs, clean any crap out of it, but DONT GO NUTS and make it too loose..... these and the scotchbrite discs for a die grinder have fubarred more machined fits in the hands of an amateur than anything else......

does this prop seem "reasonable" for this combination?

I popped on the Michigan prop. We will see what it does. Either I won’t notice a difference, or we just piddlefart around the lake as usual. We don’t usually go for top speed, just out to burn gas, **** off the environmentalists and have some fun…..

    Water in Bellows

with parts like U-Joints, the chances of Mercury or Sierra or Quicksilver manufacturing their own is NIL. They are contracted out to the likes of MOOG, Spicer etc who make the automotive versions as well. (the price you pay for the name is pure markup for the seller). Get the automotive...

1989 Starcraft Islander 221 (4.3 Liter) doghouse rebuild.

I once you get started, it’s pretty easy. I was dreading the job myself. A good afternoon to build, and a morning to cover it. Mine took about a sheet of plywood. I didn’t glass it as if I had to make changes, I would have been doing it over. All in all it turned out good for what it is

    Budget Boat Covers

I don’t use them, but a custom cover will fit better and be much more “trailerable” a than a generic cover. I just use them to keep crap out when storing, and leave the cover at home when going boating. That would be the only real “upside” to a pricey custom cover IMHO….

Well it happened. Water in oil

well, if its not the block/heads your job is still a bit easier. Not that the exhaust side is "fun", but it sure is a bit lighter. You may be on to something with the bad flapper, although if yours is as big a PITA to access as mine, its a NO FUN job for sure to get the original rivets drilled out

1989 Starcraft Islander 221 (4.3 Liter) doghouse rebuild.

if you have the old doghouse to use, even as a pattern you are ahead of the game. I just had to redo mine on my boat. Measurements arent going to help much as each boat is a bit different. I started with the sides, and cut them long enough to cover the engine, and have the most "shape" to them...

    Budget Boat Covers

I get mine off of ebay for like $20. Some are just sun protection, some are a bit more substantial. All of them however keep the leaves and other debris out. First one I got was pretty thin, and lasted about 6 months, second one is a lot nicer, and is still going strong. Maybe not what you are...

    Exhaust bellows ripped

i do believe it is. biggest benefit is you shouldnt have to pull the drive to install it

    Exhaust bellows ripped

there is another option to the bellows, Mercrusiers can also use a two piece tube in place of the bellows. There is a discussion here https://forums.iboats.com/threads/mercruiser-exhaust-tube-vs-bellows.182774/ being a two piece, it doesnt fully seal all exhaust gases going through it, but...

    Exhaust bellows ripped

could have been sitting on a shelf for ages before it got to you. My aftermarket bellows I put on last year are already showing signs of checking, so will be watched like a hawk, and replaced if they get any worse. The exhaust IIRC isnt as critical as the u-joint bellows as the y-pipe goes well...

97 SeaRay 175 project boat hull weeping question

that ought to work. In a pinch I have used the stuff from WallyWorld or the auto parts store. As long as you get enough layers, it will work just fine.

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

good deal. At least with a marine engine heat cycling isnt as much of an issue. unless something goes wrong, 150-160 is about all it will see which should keep expansion/contraction to a minimum and not stress the pins. otherwise, I am with Danforth..... rotten boat donor motor, and swap it out...

does this prop seem "reasonable" for this combination?

its fiberglass. good to know a 17 isnt out in left field somewhere...... as for the existing prop, well, if I were to take it to a prop shop, the least of their concerns would be the pitch...... its shall we say a bit "rough" around the edges.... Methinks the previous owner either liked to make...

    Trouble getting tags for trailer

Never heard of needing last registration, unless they are going to try and ding you for fees from the last time it was registered..... Ive even gone in and had to do a bonded title on a trailer that came with a boat, and the trailer had no title. Still a fairly easy process to do. For the...

does this prop seem "reasonable" for this combination?

not trying to fix an issue per se, but see if what I have is "reasonable" given the combination that I have. Boat is a 1980 vintage 16' vhull bowrider with a Mercruiser 120 engine, MC-1 drive (1.98 ratio?) prop that is on the boat is unmarked in any way that I can find (nothing under the mount...
