    Mercruiser MC1 drive (Pre-alpha) Rebuild

ok, from the looks of things, your front bushing only has marks on the outside edge, and that is NOT a sealing surface. I would dress them down to get rid of any raised edges and be very careful when putting the o-ring into its groove (if the groove is good, and the edges around it are good, you...

    Spreading Manure, again

you absolutely can weld stainless with stick, gas or wire feed, however TIG allows you much greater control of your puddle, heat, and of course shielding gases when working with materials that can be quite finicky,

Merc 350 sputters, dies, won't restart after heating up

wouldnt be the first or last time that a pickup went wonky when hot, and then took an extended break before it worked again..... at the end of the day, its still a Chevy... starter solenoids and dizzy pickups dont like heat as they age

I/O 18 ft. Does it sit too low in the stern?

still the weight of a smaller adult (such as my wife) or larger child.... I woudnt want to deadlift either one personally :D

I/O 18 ft. Does it sit too low in the stern?

to my eye it looks low in the stern. BUT, that could be due to a humongous engine in the boat and a very light bow. Out of curiosity what engine is in that thing? Keep in mind that a small block V-8 weighs in the neighborhood of 500-800 pounds dry, and big blocks weigh more than that. if you...

    Spreading Manure, again

actually, I do. However I dont have a TIG setup to work with either Aluminum or Stainless. I do know that if you overheat stainless, you can burn out the alloy and remove the stainless qualities of it. Aluminum just ends up as a molten hunk on the floor if you do it wrong. Myself I stick to mild...

    Spreading Manure, again

well, in all honesty, stainless is much harder to fix compared to Aluminum or Bronze. Requires special procedures for welding, whereas the other two are relatively easy and soft to work with. This goes with "wrecking lower units" if you hit something with an aluminum or bronze prop, the prop...

    Spreading Manure, again

my take on it is this. If this really was the best thing since sliced bread in the marine world, some "obscure" internet testing site wouldnt have to make their silly videos. There are people and businesses out there that a miniscule improvement in speed or efficiency means MILLIONS of dollars...

    Spreading Manure, again

In a word, yes..... it doesnt take much looking to see that the general consumer really isnt that informed about "anything" and even a "shred" of truth by someone who comes off with authority will be followed by some with no more thought.

    MerCruiser MC-1 Trim Sender wiring

yes, that is the diagram that I am working off of. Ill check the ground on the black lead on the sender, and see if that makes the gauge work. otherwise, the gauge is probably pooched.....

    Spreading Manure, again

the issues I am seeing off the top are these. 1) increase in speed 2) decrease in RPM 3) increase in fuel economy getting two out of three of these is not unreasonable, but it seems that getting all three violates the rules of physics. Changing the pitch can and will likely result in top...

    MerCruiser MC-1 Trim Sender wiring

ok, working on a 1980 vintage MC-1 120 horse unit. Having a little issue with the trim sender, NOT the trim limit switch. Both are new, and are replacing ones that had garbage wiring to start with (multiple splices, butchered wiring, etc, dont trust it at all). Sender for my year according to...

    Spreading Manure, again

it truly is a bit sad that the days of independent and honest tests seem to be done and gone. All you get now is paid for advertizements and hype. It transcends industry and product lines.... everything must be taken with a grain of salt, and even then you need a good pair of boots to read most...

    Spreading Manure, again

well, that prop may be good at spreading manure.... If its the one that keeps showing up in my feed, then its definitely "unique".... you would think after all these years, hydrodynamicists would have figured out how to make a prop the most efficient it can be.... so the chances that someone...

    1975 Fiberglass Boat Restoration

nothing that many have not done before, some many times. If you take your time and do it right, you will wind up with a boat that is in near new condition, and will last you a good long while. There are those here to assist with questions and offer encouragement when it seems overwhelming (and...

    Cracked 5.7 engine

in the automotive world, that is a fatal flaw. Automotive V-8's also run a pressurized cooling system much hotter than the marine versions run. The marine engine runs cooler, and also has an open cooling system, so your leak is just a leak. What you have there is freeze damage, and is going to...

    Is this a concern?

now, would that be a genuine Rolls Royce Merlin, or a Packard Merlin...... what about those of us with an Allison V1710? Heck, I would settle for a Packard 4M2500 out of a PT boat (rather have the PT boat with all 3 4M2500's though.... :D )

    Mercruiser OEM Belt Surprise

bingo. Back in the day they had a tool to measure the belt, and didnt need the application. I would think/hope a better auto parts store like a Napa would still have one of these, and not be dependent on application in their computer for finding the correct belt.
