Can we talk about 4 stroke mercury’s from the early 2000’s?

Thanks Scott. Is that optimum or factory comp? What’s the low range of acceptable? Say 120?

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Not sure yet. The seller took it in on trade on another deal and didn’t want it. He only knew it had been stored at a Marina for a few years unused due to an expensive motor problem. I’m going to do a comp test and if that and spark checks out, I’m going to try and fire on muffs. If it runs, and...

Can we talk about 4 stroke mercury’s from the early 2000’s?

Thanks for the background and insight on these. When it comes to a full rebuild, I assume 2 stroke is most cost effective to rebuild? (2Stroke = Less parts to replace and handle, less machining costs and easier set up/tuning?)

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Thanks R. It’s on the small side but we’re on a small lake. The photos look exceptional but it’s a little more long in the tooth than it appears. I’m hoping some scrubbing will revive the bench upholstery. The cover back there has been missing and it’s a bit grotty. But this boat might be all...

Can we talk about 4 stroke mercury’s from the early 2000’s?

I bought a boat tonight. I knew the motor needed repair or replacement so I considered it as a part out motor as I have a few 2 strokes to run on it for this season. But on the way home I started thinking about digging into it to see what’s wrong with it. I don’t know anything about these...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Ok so scope creep, heavy workload and time away from home has killed my project AGAIN. Tonight I dragged home a small fiberglass bow rider with a damaged 4stroke merc on it. Going to toss one of my 2 strokes on the back and use it at my trailer for the season. This will allow me to continue...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

That boat is looking so awesome. I like the bench seat idea. If it was mine, I would make it so that both the back and the seat itself folded out into the open floor space if there was room. Leaving a slightly elevated casting deck behind the swivel seats. And I would try to make it so that the...

I just read this and while I don’t have pressure washer experience, your flush out plan sounds logical

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

You must be stoked. Was in my brothers AG tonight on Belwood Lake. Was a nice nght to be out even if it a reservoir lake. There’s a small mom and pop outfit in Kitchener that does boat covers, Trent trailer repairs etc. pm me if you want a contact info. I’ll tell you another few to steer...

Thanks yep I saw that. Does the latch simply hook underneath the plywood?

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Success!! I was actually able to place a rivet in each corner on the inside of the folding window. I was worried I was going to hit the glass but it worked out. There’s still a slight bit of flex in the window but I think I’ll have to replace the hinge in order to take that out. Probably not...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Thanks for taking me back to your thread. I forgot what a great build it was. What do your hatches close on? Is there a striker/retainer or are they simply friction? Did you have any problems just using plywood? (Twisting boards etc)

You know, I wonder if belt dressing will work. Something to make the rubber inserts sticky. Coupled with new rivets like you said could be enough. I worry that the jostling in the waves could make the window pop if too tightly sealed?

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I went to look at an aluminum goods boat and trailer on the weekend. This project is going long. The other boat had a wasted motor but I have 2 to use… thought about picking it up and just using that all season at the trailer. And let that become the trailer boat. But I walked away from it. As...

Thanks. Never heard of them. Checked out the website. They’ve got some good products. Unfortunately not the size I need. In this particular situation

    Aluminum extrusion trim sources?

Thanks I deal with a lot of metal suppliers. I’ll check with some of the specialty alloy houses. But most of them around here are more industrial-based

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Thanks guys. The curvature of top of the console seems to be right according to windshield base curvature, even with no shims under the console legs. The puzzling thing is that I raised the console tops by only half an inch. But when I put a half inch shim under each console leg to compensate...

    Aluminum extrusion trim sources?

Hey guys, does anybody have a source for aluminum extrusion trim pieces? I have found some nice extruded aluminum angle pieces at Home Depot but nothing like these. I know I’m looking for a needle in a haystack here, but I would like to find some of the small channel that trims out the interior...
