What are the benefits of NMMA yacht certification?

No real hang up just got curious about it since I saw that most boats above 26ft have 'yacht' on the rating plate. No clue if it actually mattered or not. If it gave some advantage might be worth a bit bigger boat otherwise might not be worth going bigger as I don't really need it and cost wise...

What are the benefits of NMMA yacht certification?

The Wellcraft 262 fishermen I looked at had a capacity plate that showed the US as 'yacht' and Canadian as 'X people' I forget the actual number but think it was 12.

What are the benefits of NMMA yacht certification?

What's the point of including "yacht" in the class/certification name then? I know of the goal of standards, though, wasn't sure if it somehow got you different laws that apply or something like that. I know the 26ft Wellcraft I looked at had no rating for people onboard like the 24ft wellcraft...

What are the benefits of NMMA yacht certification?

I am considering two boats in the next 1-2 years, the Robalo 272 (yacht rated 27ft) and the other is the Robalo 250 (25ft). I am tied to which one I like more. I am a bit curious about what the NMMA yacht certification gets me both in Canada and the US. I am looking at moving south of the border...

Wellcraft or Robalo or Black Fin or BW for CC?

There is none till $250k I think. The quote doesn't have it well sorta it has it as $0 which lines up with what I know. Anyways that's a financial question more so than boat

Wellcraft or Robalo or Black Fin or BW for CC?

Exactly my main reasoning, I am out with a max of 2-3 adults and 1-2 kids plus 90% of the time it will be 2 adults and a dog. Seating isn't my concern but instead handling rough water to be out any day I want - limited time off work so have to take what weather I can get - and also my parents...

Wellcraft or Robalo or Black Fin or BW for CC?

I actually watched the used market around me for the last couple of months and prices are insane. There is a Robalo R230 close to me for $11k more than I'm going to pay. It is used and has I think ~240 hours on it. CC are not super common around me so that drives used prices up as well as people...

Wellcraft or Robalo or Black Fin or BW for CC?

Maybe so? But then again the exchange rate is like $1 USD to $1.35 CAD so that makes the difference bigger plus add in the dealer saw 5 price increases between last year and this year. Adds up fast

Wellcraft or Robalo or Black Fin or BW for CC?

Pretty much what dingbat said, I take some people who are not boaters so it means the ride has to be better or they won't come. Plus I have always liked CC looks wise

Wellcraft or Robalo or Black Fin or BW for CC?

Hey, I paid a really high price of $0 for that opinion, well worth the money ;) The Boston Whaler is by far my first choice but I got quoted at over $200k CAD for it. That's about $30-50k more than the other options. Not sure I can justify that nor afford it if I want to keep my loan term...

Wellcraft or Robalo or Black Fin or BW for CC?

I am looking to buy a CC in the 22-23ft range and currently looking at a Wellcraft 222 Fisherman, a Robalo R230, a BlackFin 222C (might be over budget), and a Boston Whaler 230 Outrage (might be over budget). I am looking to get opinions and experiences about these boats. My goals are boating...

Worthwhile to take the Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Training Course - TP 14692 E (Canada)

Fair point. I work in tech for a day job and have taken many useless courses over the years so I am a bit wary of taking courses I can't find many student reviews on. Figured this forum would have someone that took it or knows more about it than me. More so is it worth it I guess would sum it up

Worthwhile to take the Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Training Course - TP 14692 E (Canada)

Since I can't edit the OP here is a comment on it, I am not so much interested in the paying passenger part of the OP but more in the course I am asking about. I know I need to look up local laws and such. From what I read this is the first step in getting to paying passengers. I plan to...

Worthwhile to take the Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Training Course - TP 14692 E (Canada)

Looks like I could in theory take it with the cert mentioned that I asked about. Seems everyone is getting hung up on the paying passenger part rather than the main part about the course itself. Will see if I can edit the OP to make it more clear what I'm asking.

Worthwhile to take the Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Training Course - TP 14692 E (Canada)

Thanks, that was kinda my thoughts, I will learn something from it that would be worth the $750 or so for it. As for paying passengers, I read that course is a starting point and go from there which was the second less important idea of taking it.

Worthwhile to take the Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Training Course - TP 14692 E (Canada)

I will probably not take paying people out for a couple of years. Currently, I am looking to setup myself up for that being an option when I can afford it. On the idea of the Power Squadron, I thought that was normally a US thing not Canada. I checked the site for the Canadian one and it mostly...

Worthwhile to take the Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Training Course - TP 14692 E (Canada)

I am considering taking the SVOP course (Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Training Course - TP 14692 E) to get better at boating and confirm that I still remember it all from when I was in cadets. I have 13 years of experience owning boats and I have 2 years before that working on sailing boats...

    Maintenance costs?

Thanks, Jim, didn't realize it was that simple, I might actually be able to do that on my own then should it now void the warranty. As for dealers up charging, my neighbor has a good friend who is a marina mechanic and would be doing the work as long as the boat is at my house when he comes for...

    Maintenance costs?

Hey all, I am likely getting a Wellcraft 262 fisherman with the twin Mercury 250's. I am wondering if anyone could give me an idea of maintenance costs. I will be leaving it in a freshwater slip for the summer with me hauling it in/out as needed. I will not be doing any maintenance myself...

Gas usage on twin Merc 250 XL?

I'm looking at a boat (wellcraft fisherman 262) that has twin Mercury Verado 250 XL and am wondering what I should expect for gas usage while cruising at around 30-40 mph and at trolling speed. I can't seem to find anything on their site about it and best I can find for the engines are the max...
