Changing Chrysler i/b to Chevy i/b process

RH rotation engines also have the pistons reversed on the rods. While the engine will run you will have idling problems and the pistons will not last long as the thrust sides are not on the load side.

1990 Mercruiser 5.7/v8 rusted exhaust manifold bolt

The first thing I would do is to pull the engine since there is not enough room in the boat to remove the manifold and I bet that the oil pan and timing cover are on life support. One trick that works for me In that area is to get a hole saw that will fit closely over the rusted bolt without the...

No spark plug spark... 170 MC , 1985 Sea Ray

The best thing that you can do is to obtain a Petronics ignition conversion. The condensers and other ignition parts are mostly made off shore and are not reliable.

No spark plug spark... 170 MC , 1985 Sea Ray

Something else to check is the “bypass” circuit from the starter solenoid. Get a jumper wire and connect it from the + battery to the + side of the coil and spin the engine over. If you get a spark then the solenoid is the problem.

95 omc 5.8 runs cool without thermostat but eventually overheats with the thermostat

Looks like you found the other main problem. It is really hard to diagnose one problem when there were actually 2. Hopefully the bolts will come out and the mating surface is not eroded away. That area must have really got hot at some point in the past. Let’s hope this is the final solution.

Mercruiser 470 head and gasket inspection

Looks like you lucked out, most times however those seals are the cause. Since there are no cam bearings in the block over tI’ve the cam “sinks” which is another cause of the seals leaking. Just keep a watch for coolant in the bilge.

Mercruiser 470 head and gasket inspection

You better remove the timing cover and install a Speedy sleeve over the water pump impeller shaft along with the 2 seals. The “weep” hole in the bottom of the cover is plugged up. Most times when coolant enters the oil that is the reason especially if there is no blown out sections of the head...

    Good Source for Trailer Axles?

I also vote for the Speedi sleeves. I have had excellent results with them.

    AQ125 Oil pan

Amen to that brother. I also always sprayed the oil pan and timing cover with 3 M undercoat on every engine I replaced.

    Tuliped valve causes

Just one question, was the intake manifold re-used on the engine changes?

    AQ125 Oil pan

If I could not separate it at the flywheel housing all I ever did was pull the upper gear box like you said. I always pulled the upper if it was a V8 but always took a shot with separating at the flywheel housing on the 4 bangers. Quite often I encountered a situation where the heads of some...

    AQ125 Oil pan

Actually the Volvo AQ models do not need the drive removed to separate the engine from the flywheel housing. Hopefully the PDF shaft is not rusted to the flex plate coupler.

Have the owner take you for a demonstration ride. If it turns up to 4000 -4300 rpm leave it alone If you buy it.

    OMC Bayliner Trophy ignition q’s

Bayliner used a generic harness and it is not shielded. Follow the color of the wire from the ignition switch which should be purple in color To the rear of the boat. Inspect the condition fo the large pins in the main cannon plug where it plugs into the engine side of the harness.

    AQ125 Oil pan

It depends on how much clearance there is below the engine, you might be able to do it by removing the oil pump suction screen Once the pan is dropped. The engine is not too heavy and is easily separated from the flywheel housing and rigging a 4”x6” across the top of the gunnels with a chain...

Trim / tilt broke. Both up and down relays showing voltage.

As far as the pump not working and the fact that you have had this boat for the last 20 years I am pretty sure that the brushes are probably worn down to the tension springs. As far as the fluid overflowing I do find that somewhat strange, and have to agree with Scott.

    Surge brake

I always check the fluid and replace it periodically since brake fluid tends to absorb moisture. One day one of the brake drums started smoking so I stopped and bled off the fluid. After getting home I pulled the drums and every thing looked good. I stated actuating the master cylinder and...

Problem with getting to the advice setting

I must have done something wrong. The person’s picture signature is on the right side of my screen and I have to go to boats forum on Google to be able to go to the OMC, Volvo or Mercruiser sites. In other words I have to back out each time. Needless to say I am not very good with these type...

    “Major” Nut Case

My last job was with the local Police Department as a civilian employee. My job was maintaining the special equipment. We had a 26’ Boston Whaler Sentry with a pair of 225 Mercurys. The Major comes and says to get the boat ready to go rescue a disabled boat in the lake. He is barking orders at...
