    Would have worked to drive a flat screwdriver into it, the turn it out. Been there done that. Removing thermostat should give you enough access to remove any plastic shavings. Then run the engine with the thermostat assembly removed to flush it out .

    Doesn’t the large black threaded part fit into your flywheel / crankshaft ? Then the threaded eye screws into it.

    The light only uses two contacts. The 3rd peg is just so you install it in the correct orientation. Is the new light an LED ? If yes, you may need to swap the pos and neg wires in the base.
