    Merccruiser taking on water.

A damaged or disconnected exhaust bellows will not cause your boat to take on water. Mine popped off the outdrive side a few years ago. I left it. Didn't want to hassle getting it back on. It's now acting like an exhaust tube.

    Bolster seat

I hear your pain. My helm seat can be adjusted forward and aft, spin around, but also like yours doesn't have up and down adjustments. Can't the OP just replace the pedestal with a more adjustable one?

Info on Mercruiser 0A494867 170Hp engine.

Does your boat have power steering? Some do, some don't. Look for hydraulic lines attached to the steering ram. Mine (4.3L) is behind the engine, but yours maybe different, I have no idea.

1995 Mercruiser 3.0 starter will not engage flywheel

Bench test it as suggested and use the boat's battery. This will confirm both are good. I once had a bad battery cable on a vehicle that had starting problems. The cable almost looked fine, but was corroded on the inside, under the insulation. I cut the suspected cable near the battery and...

1995 Mercruiser 3.0 starter will not engage flywheel

Oh well. I was hoping for an easy fix. Sometimes the obvious gets overlooked. Good luck, hope you hash it all out soon and get boating.

Transferring fuel from truck to garage to dock to boats (PITB)

I like that idea. You might not be limited to doing it at your dock. You can do it anywhere, as long as you're not breaking any laws or trespassing! Anywhere on the lake where you could rendezvous the boat with the vehicle. You can still use your gas caddy. Depending how close you can get...

1995 Mercruiser 3.0 starter will not engage flywheel

Is your battery up to the task? Maybe it's on it's way out and can't handle the amperage to fully engage the starter. How are all your connections? Have you taken apart and cleaned all battery cable terminations, including the ground to the engine block? Corroded connections can cause a lot of...

    ENGINE NOT STARTING...KICKING MY BUT

It's rare that you have a bad coil, but of course, it is possible. I usually prefer OEM. However, the ignition sensor I bought is made by Mallory, was easy to install, had everything I needed and has worked flawlessly. Go through that troubleshooting flow chart. You will find the problem...

    Outboard Lock Recommendations?

During the summer I keep my boat in my driveway. There were some cars stolen last year across town. Some newer ones and some classic ones. That situation made me paranoid, so for the rest of the summer I parked my truck in front of the boat and across the driveway, blocking access to the...

    ENGINE NOT STARTING...KICKING MY BUT

I have a 2003 4.3 I was able to pin point the problem by going through the TB-5 troubleshooting chart. If it's the ignition module under the distributor cap, it's not expensive. I paid $46 for a Mallory unit 3 years ago. The hardest part for me was getting the rotor off. Apparently they...

What to check / replace on a boat ?

Yeah, I wondered about spraying something on the bellows to help preserve them.

What to check / replace on a boat ?

Check those bellows. You don't know how old they are or if they were treated correctly. The drive should kept down during storage so the bellows are not being constantly stretched. As stated, a torn or cracked bellows can sink your boat. I keep my drive down during winter storage and also in...

Need help with my 3.7l mcm 180

Yeah, someone I know was driving and heard a loud pop. Then it sounded like an air compressor. It was an E250 van. We found the busted up spark plug and coil pack parts all over the top of the engine. The van was parked and never got fixed.

Changing brakes on load rite trailer

Just to mention, I have a similar junction box as in @bruceb58 second picture. Mine was wired for a travel trailer. Apparently a travel trailer needs a different wiring configuration. A few wires had to be switched around. So if you use one of these, get your meter out and check continuity.

Atwood surge coupler welded on Prestige trailer

I converted to all electric brakes. My surge brake system needed constant repairs and rust in the master cylinder was the final straw. Plus I hated the slapping noise every time I stopped or accelerated. After the conversion, I ran a bolt through the actuator to stop it from sliding. The...

Need help with my 3.7l mcm 180

Ha! Not to go too far off topic, but on those Triton engines...you'll find your spark plug (and coil pack) laying somewhere on top of your engine after it literally blew out due to bad threads in the heads. Ford ignored the problem, abandoning it's customers. If you happen to have a van, good...

Need help with my 3.7l mcm 180

Here is a picture of my spark plug socket. I ground down the top portion for better clearance. I cannot take credit for this great idea. Someone on this forum posted this a while back. Regrettably I can't remember who that was to give credit, but it was just one of those great ideas. Oh, mine...

What to check / replace on a boat ?

You did a lot! Did you replace the bellows too? If not, then give them a good inspection with the drive in all different positions. If the rubber looks dry rotted or cracked, it's well past it's lifespan. A torn bellows can sink your boat. Happy boating!

Need help with my 3.7l mcm 180

If you're cacking the ceramic, you're either not using the proper socket or the socket is not sitting straight. Not sitting straight is common problem due to obstructions. Sometimes you can't get the socket in there properly due to certain obstructions. The fix is to grind down the walls of...

    12v to 24v trolling motor???

The most important things are proper wire size and proper location and size of the fuses. The wiring should be fused at the batteries in order to protect the wiring going to the motor. As mentioned, your new motor will dictate all of this. It all depends on the amperage draw of that new motor...
