    Garmen GPSMap 162: Blank Scree

First: my Garmen GPSMap 162 has a blank screen, but has power. Long shot: Any suggestions? Second: Let's say it's shot; do I need to rewire if I get a new model (162 discontiniued) or would a more current Garmen hook right up to the antenna and multi pin connector?

No cast iron? Are GLM exhaust components aluminum (i.e., manfolds, risers)?

I know the notorious GLM brand. Generally considered cheap, but some folks find the discount price worth it when they take time to check mating surfaces, etc. However, I never gave any thought to it, but being a salt-water boater, are GLM exhausts aluminum? I never see a reference to them...

Urgent: Whether 2 proceed w/repair. 502 a goner or can I test compression?

I have either a cracked head (or corroded with a hole) or blown head gasket. After a manifold/riser/elbow/gaskets job, I had the misfortune of seeing salt water coming out of the starboard side exhaust gasket (engine meets exhaust manifold). These new pieces/installation supposedly check...

UPDATED: PIC I have saltwater coming out at mani gasket @ engine?! All new stuff!

I have a great running 502 Magnum EFI/MP, 1996, turning a Bravo 1 and 23p Mirage Plus prop on my 26.9' Scarab. She runs up near 60+ with a fairly heavy load. Factory specs on the boat are 61 MPH at 4900 RPM on a 23p Mirage. I am right there. I am actually afraid to push it harder or trim it...

GREAT week at the boat ramps! Them lower Chesapeake boys really know how to roll!

I am completely wiped out from a week's long vacation down on the Chesapeake. I made use of the Cape Charles, VA harbor ramps and the Kiptopeke Park ramps. Cape Chuck is good for three wide. Kiptopeke is goof for two wide... maybe three. Wow. Just wow. Motels and restaurants that...

Bravo 1 knocking. Prop wont turn by hand.

Humming along fine at 3000 rpm and hear a sound over the engine. Idle the engine and hear knocking. Shut it down, jump into the Atlantic and felt prop. Won't turn. Stepped on ladder and tried to push prop with foot. Didn't turn. TowBoatUs came and got me after I called in my GPS...

I need a starting battery, here are specs. Been starting w/ a 'deep cycle' batt !!!

Howdy again. I pop in from time to time to explain that electric is not my thing. Yep... right down to batteries. You folks helped me relax and install my Livorsi gauges, right down to a GPS speedo wired to my Garmen GPS unit. (So I've attached a pic of completed work below. Thanks for the...

Why do I get oil/gases out of this hose up onto my engine hatch?

1996, Merc 502 Magnum EFI/MP. 320 hours. See pic. Pic taken from top down. This is over the right bank of engine (if viewed from inside boat. After running hard, the engine hatch/cover will have an oily residue on it. It is immediately above this hole (see red arrow). Engine runs...

Long shot Question: Can I launch my 26' Scarab @ Kiptopeke Park (VA)Chessie Ba

Well... I used to launch out of Cape Charles, VA @ the harbor. Gonna be two minutes from Kiptopeke boat ramp and have no clue if she can handle my 26.9' Scarab. Never seen it. Anyone out there have any idea? I know this is a long shot to get an answer. This is the time of year I yank the...

Should I fill my new fuel filter/separator with fuel when installing?

My instincts tell me to carefully remove the old filter and be ready for some drips. Then, when installing the new one, I plan on using a fresh/thin coat of oil on the rubber seal, and my instincts tell me that I'd be better off adding fuel to the new filter before screwing it on (by hand)...

How do I know how good my battery is? And how reliable is that test (if one exists)?

Re: 1996 Wellcraft Scarab, 502 c.i.d Merc Magnum (8.2L), EFI/MPI. Batteries and auto/boat electric systems in general are the weak spots for me. So, my boat is new to me, and she has the same battery from when I got 'er in the fall (age of battery unknown). Took her out a few times in the...

Merc topic: Out with old Manis/Risers, but is Merc or aftermarket preferred?

Good bye old Mr Manis and Mr Risers (or we callin' them elbows?)! Nice knowing you! I caught you red handed, with the tiniest of a leak. Caught you within a droplet of your little lives. Wow, my little stainless steel elbow friends, you lasted a long time, even though your SS lives were...

List the ways to get water on spark plugs...

In a three-way discussion, the issue of manifold and riser replacement in a salt-water boat/engine brought up some interesting perspectives. My perspective: Replace manis and risers every 3-5 years when used in salt. Go to the higher end if flushing, and stick to the lower end if not. I...

    UPDATED: I had a feeling I was over-propped...

I have a 26' 1996 Scarab. 25 pitch prop. I bought it this past fall and love it, but I had a feeling it was overpropped, just from reading about props here and doing some math. I could never come up with an answer that was recommending anything bigger than a 24 pitch. Based on power...

    Wandering at low speed.

When puttering along at 'no wake' zone speeds, my boat will not track straight. She goes a little left or a little right. Requires constant steering wheel input. >Bravo 1. >Three-blade SS prop in mint condition. >I do not have a finned zinc anode on cavitation plate, just a flat one...

Again, people are late getting their boats ready + missed great East Coast weather!

Not me! Sunday was sweeeet. Yeeeeehaw! Pat yourself on the back here if you stretched your boat's legs before Memorial Day (or at least were ready to)!! Overall, with temps in the mid-80's and no wind, turnout on the waters around Cape May County, NJ was light. Ocean traffic was decent...

How's my Scarab (502 Merc Magnum MPI) look and sound? Opinions wanted!

I am wayyyy behind after moving this spring. 502 was winterized and fresh lube and oil were added in November. First start of 2010! On the muffs, 80 degrees outside. Engine warmed for 5 mins by this point in vid. Running on full tank of reg unleaded with Stabil from fall. This is...
