    3.7 Mercruiser, Crank no start

Now you have to check dwell and then set your timing. By moving your point gap, your timing has changed.

Mercruiser 470 Coolant Loss and Milkshake Oil

I'm pretty sure if it was from the elbow/exhaust manifold, it would leak into the engine through the exhaust valve in the head, which would cause you to have coolant sitting on top of the pistons rather than in the pan, unless your valve seal was shot, then it could get into the lifter valley...

    Mercruiser Pre-Alpha (MC1) Broken Beyond Repair... Options/Recommendations?

You don't have to for the bellhousing, you do for the gimbal housing..which end of the bellows has the corrision? the bellhousing end or the gimbal housing end?

    3.7 Mercruiser, Crank no start

There is a timing chain tensioner on these engines, I'm not sure how loose it would get if that piece were to break. You could put a timing light on #1 and see where the light flashes on the balancer mark even if the engine is not running. Factory spec calls for 4° BTDC. See the attached TSB

    Mercruiser Pre-Alpha (MC1) Broken Beyond Repair... Options/Recommendations?

What bearing did you try to pull? The gimbal bearing? Your easiest bet would be another MC-1 in better shape. What engine and or gear ratio do you have. I had a MC1 bolted to my Alpha One bellhousing for a few years as as a back up without any issues except for the length of the universal joint...

    Engine Stalls Out

Put an inline fuel pressure gauge between the fuel pump and carb and see if you lose pressure when it happens.

    Merc 3.7/470 voltage reg

The kit BT posted was about $350.00 incl. shipping. What kind of money is your conversion and what part did you use? What were the steps to convert it? You may be able to help others down the road that would like to keep that set up. The only flaw I see is your limited with the output being...

alternator wiring - red and black wire Mercruiser 78403A2

#1 is your ignition feed #2 is a sense wire that controls the internal voltage regulator to goes to battery or could be run up to the helm to read battery voltage there, but you don't have to. You could have say 14 volts coming out of the alternator and 13.5 volts at the helm due to voltage drop...

Dies when throttling up from idle after warm up/ 89 merc 3.7 2bbl

J1172 and J354 are not part numbers, they are US Coast Guard standards that many distributors meet. They don't tell you what model you have. I also have an'89 3.7LX and I have the Delco distributor. I would guess you would also have the same. Snap a photo of what your dizzy looks like...

Mercruiser 470 Coolant Loss and Milkshake Oil

These blocks don't usually suffer from being cracked, they're aluminum not cast iron and all have closed cooling with antifreeze, not sea water. Not to say it couldn't happen.... They do blow head gaskets pretty easily if the overheat though.

Mercruiser 470 Coolant Loss and Milkshake Oil

Did you get it running after you changed the oil and topped off the coolant the first time, you mentioned you turned it over but not if it started? Did the motor run hot/overheat at all before this happened? Here is the possible causes for water in the oil from service manual 8

I'm not sure what your setup looks like. Take a photo of it so we can see what you have.

Urgent help - nearly broke down at sea. Fuel Problem.

Sounds like you haven't checked yet for an obstructed pick up. BTDoctur had a post recently where he found blocked inline filter in the tank pick up. Edit: here is his post: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/finding-these-on-i-o-s-but-may-apply-to-all-installed-tanks.749555/

Also, the side of the cap on the Delco has a shelf or tapers in at the base of the posts where the wires connect, the Prestolite side is straight up to the top.

Mercruiser 5.0 dies while idling - no fuel from line

Sounds like the carb may have some junk in it. I know you have inline filters, but if there was ethanol gas sitting in it over winter time, it could have caused corrosion in the carb by itself.

Dies when throttling up from idle after warm up/ 89 merc 3.7 2bbl

The point gap gets you close. You need to get the dwell within spec then check the timing, which will move when you move the dwell, so check timing after getting the dwell set.

Take a look at the two pages I have attached.. one of each style distributor. Notice the cap shape between terminal posts. The Delco is more rounded. I have the Delco in mine.
