    Mercruiser 6.2L MPI overheating

I thought about that, but my boat has only 35 hours on it and has never been on saltwater. Does Bravoitis happen that fast? I just wouldn't expect a lot of corrosion yet on this engine. I'm thinking more likely it's some kind of mechanical blockage of the tube, something getting sucked up...

    Mercruiser 6.2L MPI overheating

I'm going to drain the gear lube first, I was going to drain it today and let it sit for 24 hours to drain everything out and then in a few days I will take it apart and look for blockages. If I drain the gear lube and just leave it empty while I work on it, is that going to cause a problem...

    Mercruiser 6.2L MPI overheating

I have to wait for a stern drive holder to arrive and then I will take apart the drive and find out

    Mercruiser 6.2L MPI overheating

Update: I disconneted the water inlet to the impeller and used a garden hose to push water thru and it worked like a champ, the highest temp the engine go up to was 152 F after 15 minutes. The thermostat is 140 F. After that I ran the garden hose backwards into the hose that runs to the transom...

    Mercruiser 6.2L MPI overheating

I used an IR gun to check the temps, it's definitely overheating. However this time when I started the engine it took about 3-4 mins to get above 180. When I shut off the engine at 190, the risers were reading 210 with the IR gun.

    Mercruiser 6.2L MPI overheating

Boat is freshwater, 2017 with 35 hours on engine; raw water cooled. My engine temp goes from 60 to 200 within 60 seconds after starting the engine and leaving it at idle. It overheats both when connected to water hose as well as when on the water. I checked the sterndrive water inlets for...

Can't get serpentine belt back on

Update: I got it back on but nearly broke my wrist doing it. I was trying to use a 3/8 inch ratchet wrench that's only 12 inches long which wasn't enough to give me leverage to rotate the tension pulley all the way down. So I went to home depot and bought a much longer 24 inch long breaker...

Can't get serpentine belt back on

Yes that diagram is correct. It takes quite a bit of torque to get the tension pulley into the "relaxed" position, but once it does, the belt fell off easily and I didn't have to pry it off.

Can't get serpentine belt back on

It's a 6.2L Mercruiser MPI 300HP on a 2017 Chaparral 246 SSI I didn't remove the pulley to put the belt on, I removed it so I could get access to the impeller pump which is directly underneath/behind it. There's no way for me to remove the impeller without taking out the tensioner/idle pulley...

Can't get serpentine belt back on

I took off the belt to service the impeller pump a few days ago when it was 70 degrees out. Now that the temp has dropped to the 50s, I cant get it back on. I checked the belt diagram multiple times so I know I'm putting on the right way. The idle/tension pulley is way too tight. So I...

My serpentine belt tensioner doesn't seem to work right

OK thanks, I was able to get it off. Now I have to remove about 3 more parts of the engine before I can even get to the sea pump bracket to take off the sea pump and change the impeller. What a pain

My serpentine belt tensioner doesn't seem to work right

I tried to turn the bolt counterclockwise, per the manual instructions, and the pulley didn't do anything, it just stayed stuck in one place and the belt is still tight. Even after I unscrewed the bolt, the pulley is still tight. What am I doing wrong?

How to connect remote fuel tank to Mercruiser 6.2L 300HP MPI IO

The service manual suggests that there are 2 ways to connect a remote fuel tank -- thru the fuel inlet on the fuel/water separator filter or directly into the fuel rail. However the manual doesn't really give details or pictures on how to hook it up. I assume connecting to the fuel separator...

    Testing engine out of water

I know this sounds crazy, but a guy at the marina who has been boating for 50 years says that before heading to the launch ramp he would start the engine for a second while out of water just to make sure it starts OK. I thought that was crazy and he was going to burn his engine up. But I will...
