    Piranha prop selection help

21P on a 70 HP I think is a bit much, but the truth lies in the testing. I ran a 21P 3 blade aluminum on a 3/4"jacked up 70 on a 15' kingfisher bass boat, very light weight, basically flat hull and with just me and minimal gear and fuel and the engine was loaded.

What does wood free hull actual mean

The nice thing about wood is that it absorbs impacts, one reason it was chosen initially besides other reasons. Boating is full of impacts. Non wood composites solve the rot problem, but do they take care of the impact requirement? Do impacts delaminate them?

    What type boat to buy

Besides all of the above, check into problems you may encounter from lawless sources in the open water. Hollywood has made numerous moves about such events and with the drug trade and other sources, you may get more than you bargained for.

Solas stainless 4 blades all the same?

I bought a new Solace 4 blade (stern lifting design) SS 13+x19 a couple of years ago for under $300 with free shipping....don't remember the source. I was running a (bow lifting design) 13+x20 3 blade Mercury SS Laser and I got all the things you want with a 4 blade but only lost a couple of...

    1969 Lonestar Medallion

70 HP on a 14' aluminum boat is a bit much and that plus a kicker on the transom is also. I knew a guy and went fishing with him once with a 20' lone star with open ended cabin (cover basically, that ran a 70 HP Mercury on it and it was a good match.

    Steering Wheel

That looks like a popular variety and on the transom would be a 25 to 35 HP OMC, or a 30 or 40 HP Mercury depending on vintage as the higher HP OMC came out later on......I think the Mark 55 Mercury @40 HP was next after the "Hurricane" 25 and the 30 HP Merc after the 40 HP. I didn't research...

    1988 100hp mercury spark plugs

I bought a new '88 115 in the first quarter of '89. I had that engine for 10 years and only thing I changed was the water jacket cover that encircles the plugs at the rear of the engine....piece of cake. Plugs were NGK BUZHW (NLA) surface gaps and I never had a reason to change them. I had...

    Are plastic props junk?

Timing light I have is a hand held, battery powered, laser pointed that fits in the palm of your hand. You put a reflective tape, and I have used a white paint marker pen, on the flywheel where you can see it from your seat. Get to your desired RPM point the laser at the line and press the...

Help! I need to know what I got!!! Lol

Nice piece of historical research, and time spent to help a young boater Mr. T Penfield. Very impressive and especially for a guy with your apparent financial status. I do enjoy your responses although you are well above my boating league and as a result your answers don't fit my low end...

    Steering Wheel

Agree, probably white plastic around a steel rod core for the outer diameter and a horizontal bar with mid section bulge connecting the center to the cable drum. Not familiar with the Malibu. If windshield, front deck, dash, and full cross seat with back rest cut down in the center, it...

    Help prop an old boat?

The tach is a must to start. You didn't say you had power trim so you select the thrust angle with a pin location on the transom bracket. After you get the tach, load up with your 4 people and the dog and adjust that pin for the tilt angle of the engine with respect to the transom position...

    Bad Transom?

Another possibility is that the lower unit hit something while backing up putting undue stress on it and the transom. I would say a "hands on" test of the integrity of the transom, and any possible damage to the engine mounting brackets or skeg or prop shaft would be in order.

    Four Winns hull strength

A Sea Ray hull failed? A friend had one and was working on it and had the steering console apart as I recall and I was amazed at the thickness of glass even in the console.

How to find pitch and diameter of a stainless steel prop and is it left or right

I bought a new 1972 18' Caravelle tri-hull bow rider with a 125 Johnson V4. It had the factory alum. prop. On Sundays the family went to the lake for water toy fun. On Mondays, during my lunch hour, the prop would go to the prop shop for repair....almost every week. In 1973 OMC came out with...

Mercury 50 hp, no power at prop, engine runs fine.

Hitting a rock really has nothing to do with the shifting mechanism....if the prop is doing its job as the sacrificial element. As Jimmbo said, remove the prop and inspect the hub for signs of damage especially if it has a replaceable plastic hub like is popular these days. If you have an old...

Need help with Hull crack in Aluminum Lowe Boat

I bought an old Starcraft 18' Holiday I/O and restored it. The bow eye wasn't pulled out like yours but it was worn probably 2/3 through the thickness of the loop. Took it to a welding shop and they fixed me right up. I had the boat for many years after the restoration and that weld held up...

    Prop recomendation for mercury bigfoot.

I think I verified that the lower unit is infact a prduction 75 through125 HP lower unit which runs a 13+" diameter, 15 tooth (as I recall) prop of varying pitches. Would think that the prop for a big foot would be 10 to 15 pitch area depending on load to be pushed. I think Q'Buoy runs a 115...

    Moving the filter

Problem with the filter on the inlet of the fuel pump is a condition known as "vapor lock". The fuel pump sucks on the fuel tank causing a partial vacuum /low pressure area. When hot, lowering the pressure on a line full of fuel can cause it to boil filling the line full of gas bubbles not...
