    Too big to beach?

Many different thoughts on beaching boats. IMO if you're not familiar with conditions and how youre boat will behave where/when you want to beach - don't do it unless you have a lot of boating-experienced people with you

winterizing a mercruiser 3.0 with sterndrive kept in water year round

a few electricity-based heating sources have been mentioned - certainly feasible if you can sleep counting on that the thicker bulbs mentioned are sometimes called rough-service bulbs

    Weather analysis for nearshore fishing

Glad you had a good day out - and returned to the hard. The weather info is fine to look at as a reference, actually being there with the experience of your skills, boat, water, etc is invaluable. Never tried SXM weather, but have SXM for music. I use the "free" radar info available as an...

SAFETY ALERT: Bow Seating Hazard (Malibu)

It is so easy now to look at current weather radar. That, and knowing your, and your craft's, limitations - make captaining a vessel much more predictable nowadays

Guessing young adult kids text back rather than call?

IMO, texting as its place - for info not needed right away like any communication - if you know your audience, adjust accordingly However, some times there'll be lots of back-and-forth. That's when a phone call is called-for. To me, the other part of this era of many communications methods -...

    Weather analysis for nearshore fishing

Doing the same here, but it is unfortunately due to other obligations, not weather this time. If you're hesitant to be on your boat on waters that you are usually in - maybe wait for weather in your area and boat you are comfortable with Full disclosure - I don't always do that, but in those...

    2023 NFL/CFB News and Nonsense

meanwhile, back in Buffalo... "Police, with the assistance of the Buffalo school district, called the game before it ended to ensure public safety. Buffalo police say the incident remains under investigation," the spokesperson told 2 On Your Side. The issues didn't stop with the game, though...

    New Boat Launch Ramp

An interesting project - especially if it's the ramp you use. An un-noticed and no public comment/review period for this - and no drawings available... that doesn't seem right. Working in a navigable waterway - usually ACOE gets involved. Good photos, and I agree the materials and methods seen...

    Quit My Job . . .

Sounds like the current Sr Mgt at my place of employment. Trying to convince them that O&M is a real cost and time consideration (especially at a 35 yr old facility). And to consider that when dreaming of feel-good projects that are so fun to talk about.

    Broken Skeg Tip...Repairable?

Good info above on the skeg. Seeing that would make me leery of how that boat was understood, operated, and maintained in the past - so it would make me look even closer at everything. All of that could give you bargaining power if you are not bothered with anything else you find

    2002 Chaparral 286 SSI

Nice boat, and thanks for the pics! I think what alldodge is suggesting as a try, is that on some shifters, the entire shift handle pulls out when you push the "soft button". Sometimes, when encountering this type of shifters, pull from the the pivot where the "soft button" is The VP drive is...

Fresh water corrosion and anode choices…

sounds like your water (in the slip?) is basic salt water is generally more conductive, but there is likely stray current in your slip, if you're in one I would replace the anodes - you could go with a "softer" metal, see what a reputable local uses

    Mini Excavators

Looks nice. Not sure what you get for stormwater (from the sky, and from adjacent areas) and freezing - road drainage and maintenance are key in the longer term ("you can pay me now, or you can pay me later")
