Considering moving and changing my type of boat(ing) and want opinions

Opinion? Sure. briefly - fresh water, no tide, and lower potential for undesirable sea creatures of course there are so many variables - but of all the places I've boated, on the "upper" portion of an isthmus connecting Lakes Erie and Ontario is our favorite places to have a 25 foot small...

Buying a boat that’s sat for 5 years

You must be very excited to have a new-to-you boat. Maybe consider starting a new thread to show us what you got, and close-ups of the things you have questions about

Buying a boat with a rebuilt sterndrive??

I pretty much agree with JimS, but our 1998 I/O had a lot of use when we got it in 2011, boat well-cared for, so we put a short-block in it, with a lot of help from a very good boat mechanic. Sure, we had to get a few things right on the engine re-install, but now the engine is a great-runner...

    Reseal cabin door frame

Looking good - nice work, thanks for sharing The new LED's are great - been installing/learning more about them lately. Suggest indirect lighting is the way to go in a lot of cases. I put some behind the bed frame - thy're all adjustable by remote, make great low-level and night lighting in...

    2021 Super Wildcard Weekend

I see a bunch of stuff in here about other Teams and quarterbacks - so I gotta put in a plug for the Bills, and our boy Joshie full disclosure - many of my friends in the area have seen this Team for 45 years or so, so we're a bit gun-shy there and we're with joe r too!

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

Great pics, thanks for sharing! One of the good things that many carry around a small computer these days (with a camera and, oh ya, a phone) is that there are so many pictures to share. This one on the Erie Canal a week or so ago

    Hidden horn diagnoses

Thanks for the input (and funny pic). Off-topic is fine, it's all good info from you good people. ' I used to think I'd put an air horn on the boat - but there's so many other things to do... I have a hand-held air horn if I really need it - but have never had to use any horn on this boat in...

    Hidden horn diagnoses

The little electric "hidden horn" on 1998 Wellcraft 240SE was weak when I got the boat about 7 yrs ago. Since last yr, no sound at all. Assuming the little horn reached end-of-life, bought a replacement Attwood horn for about $10. Before removing old horn, pulled wires, getting 12-volts...

    Trim tabs not operational

1998 Wellcraft 240 SE with carb'd 350 reman long block about 2 yrs ago and VP Cobra SX and merc ignition parts (a bit Franken-ish). Runs great, had someone else throw in a new dash-mounted ignition switch when they put batteries in and launched it a few weeks ago (did not have time myself). That...

    How hard is night boating

We have done lots of night boating, in many different circumstances. They all require experience, familiarity with your equipment and the area you're in, just the right amount of confidence, everything working well, good crew, etc, etc. It can be much different under different circumstances...

What is your winter weather like?

I am a few miles NE of Buffalo, not enough snow, as usual. We should get some Saturday evening into Sunday (6, 9, 12, 15 inches??), then get a bit cold. My guess is 8-10 inches my house, over a foot south and NE of us. I like this area a lot, just wish we had more snow. I'm sure others...

    Cover question

Many build frames from PVC pipe or wood for a cover, or secondary cover. We've also put a trailer-boat between 2 trees with it's mooring cover on, and hung a secondary cover (tarp) over it with steep sides to keep heavy snow loads off - wasn't pretty, but it worked.
